In general...

I was surprised by the difference between the three SI drive modes. I didn't epect it be so noticable. I enjoy choosing the right mode for different drives. Around town I like the Sport (S) for medium response/power. On long highway trips I choose (I) for MPG mello response and it goes great with cruise control on. Sport sharp (S#) for back roads.

Compared specifically to the 04...

I swear the '13 transmission makes more noise. Tires make more road noise aswell, and I had star specs on the 04. Go figure.

Interior quality is much better and theres ALOT fewer rattles then the old STI. Not really surprising because its a brand new car...but I am surprised by how many people here the DO compain about rattles, like thier driving some 80's corrolla? Sure its going to develope more over time...but honestly some people need a reality check. Go find and old GC body and take that for a ride...then try and say that your 08+ has bad rattles.

FM quality is "okay", but CD's and Ipods sound as good if not better then most cars of equal class. I can't believe the difference in sound quality from FM mode to another, its shocking.

Shifter feels 100% better. Its sharper and feels solid, no slop. The 04 shifter wiggled around like a dead fish.

The power steering feels over powered. The wheel isn't heavy enough for my taste, but still manages to give you great road feel. I'll get used to it.

Those are the main things that stick out to me... and none of it is really bad, its just different and I'm not bitter about any changes from moving on. I have an uncountable amount of positive reasons why I left the 04 for a 13 that make any bad or good surprise look trivial.

And on topic, I think my biggest surprise was discovering that the WRX was widebody. I spent 2 years shopping for a new car but between A3/A4/Civic SI/IS250/TSX/Jetta/GTI etc etc etc, nothing tickled me like 'discovering' the new gen WRX. I've never seen one driving around and never even thought to look Subaru since my image of the company was basically old, beatup bugeyes and STis.

And I think my biggest surprise when I actually got the car was that the base model came standard with heated mirrors. Missed that part in the specs
Great feedback gentleman! Much appreciated!

How much of a difference the STi rear sway bar and a performance alignment makes for the WRX.

I'd venture to guess they were all Stage II cars.
