Stock sucks, especially with most HIDs.

Agreed. I'm more curious as to if they're using projectors. All the pics I've found online don't show projectors, so I'm curious how they get away with HIDs without projectors.

It's a D2R reflector, so it's going to be a blob of light without a discernible cutoff. See the 04-05 STi for the same optics:

more importantly, for those of us without factory hids, is the reflector the same?

in the older projectors, you could put a high output H9 in place of the H11 for better lighting.

IF the HID works in the same reflector, its possible the H9 bulb can be safely used...

I have a '14 Crosstrek with stock HIDs. Canadian spec. What kind of pic do you want in particular?

It is not the same reflector. It is a D2R reflector and is shaped differently.

A picture of the headlight itself..maybe both powered off and on, for comparison sake. Merely just trying to see what Stock HID housings consist of.

There we go! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this. I am going to compare with my stock headlights. I was curious if Subaru was using projectors or not, this settles that.

Now the question....if you buy some HIDs and install on stock (non-HID) housings, will it blind the hell out of oncoming traffic...I'm guessing so

The HIDs are auto-leveling to compensate for different loads in the vehicle that might change its arc.

I've seen threads on here by Americans who've asked Canadians to order the stock HIDs and then ship them to the U.S. I don't think it's very cheap though.

If you want better light put in an H9 instead of the H11 it comes with. Almost double the lumen rating. And only $7 for a bulb on amazon. Look up h11 to h9 conversion.
