Exclamation 2002 WRX Restriction at around 4-4.5k. I NEED HELP!

Hello my fellow Subie owners . My buddy and I have done extensive research on a problem he is having with his bugeye and we havent found anything exact. We have found some things that are similar but they're not the same issue.

The car is a 2002 WRX and the major engine mods include...FP 68HTA, UL Headers, up-pipe w/ v band EWG flange and dump tube, Tial 38mm MV-S EWG, FMIC, DW 750cc injectors, 2.4'' turbo inlet, Perrin SRI, Hallman MBC, Forge BPV, Walbro 255 fuel pump, and a bellmouth dp. Road tuned at 21 psi.(roughly 350whp, 300wtq)

The problem is as follows...
When WOT
~1st gear pulls all the way through redline, hits boost normally. It went by quick but i believe psi was in the low teen range.
~2nd gear builds boost and hits19/20 psi then begins to choke at 4k and wont pass 4.3-4.5k range
~3rd and 4th gear do about the same as second gear
~5th gear begins to choke at around 3.5k in the the high teen boost range

This problem ONLY occurs when WOT. If the gas is pushed half way and we stay in negative to low boost, we are able to take gears all the way to redline without the engine choking up.

Boost is hitting the same as before when driving normally and AFR is also the same at idle, normal driving, and at WOT so we concluded it couldnt be anything to do with the fuel pump/fuel lines/fuel filter, etc. Also isnt anything to do with the clutch or tranny, so it's pretty evident that it has to do with the engine not being able to release higher boost pressures.

We are thinking it's the EWG not releasing properly at higher boost due to a damaged spring or other component but we are not entirely sure.

Please let us know what you think! Others' thoughts and opinions would be highly appreciated. My buddy wants to make sure he buys only the necessary parts needed to solve the issue. Thank you all!

This post is worthless without a datalog. I don't understand how people can spend 10K+ in mods but can spend $10 for a VAGCOM cable and download a free datalogging program.

afr numbers are normal. has to be either the bpv or ewg not releasing higher amounts of boost pressure properly

Sounds like an ignition or fueling issue. If you waste gate wasn't opening correctly your boost would be way high. What is your boost cut set at? A jammed waste gate would trigger boost cut.

The BOV/BPV only opens when shifting, unless something is set wrong.

AFR's are normal as per what, your wide band? They don't change at all when the problem occurs?

As said before, it's going to be pretty impossible to diag the issue without a log of it happening.

When were the injectors installed? My 04 did the same thing this summer and it turned out that my #3 injector was dumping fuel. New injectors and a retune later and car ran fine.

CuervoVT- Injectors were installed september of 2011 i believe. but i dont think thats the issue...im still getting the same mpg and what not
my wideband reading has been the same as before the issue started. when just cruising and being easy on the throttle with normal driving it stays around 13.8-14.7
wot i believe it gets to about 10.5-10.9
tachrev-and no, the wideband is the same as before.

new info...my wideband readings have been very odd. they were normalbefore but now on cold starts at idle it starts at about 10.9 and works its way up to normal readings of 14.5 -14.7 as it warms up. also at anytime, in any gear, at any speed, if i push the gas peddle down to the floor for a split second and let off, the wideband instantly hits 10.0...very odd. another friend of mine suggests i get a new bpv/bov
any thoughts on this? thank you

Boost leak. Probably due to the FMIC.

Are you sure its a leak? Wouldnt I still be able to redline? And wouldnt the turbo not spool up the same and hit the same until the restriction occurs?

Some people are suggesting that I replace my spark plugs and they believe the ignition and timing might be off, so I am getting those replaced in less than two weeks. any other thoughts?
