Default Halogen Fog Lights Keep Blowing Out

This seems like a recurring problem with all Subarus, but my fog lights keep blowing out. I use halogen Hella h3 yellowstar 12v 55w bulbs. Every time one blows out (every 3 or so months) I replace it with the same type of bulb. Then the opposite fog will blow out within the next week. This has happened at least 3 times since the install of my fog lights about a year ago. The install was also surprising. When I went to put the fogs in, all the wiring was done, so I figured it came from the factory like that (I bought my car used). With further inspection, I found that the wires are grounded in the motor. I know that the fogs aren't shorting out because they have before when it was wet outside and water got into the wiring (which has been fixed). Also, the fuse is good because I check it every time I replace the bulbs and I make sure that I don't touch them at all when installing them. So my questions are:

Does the '07 2.5i already come out of the factory with wiring even if there aren't fog lights?

Why does this keep happening even though I am using the correct voltage?

What is the best yellow bulb to use that is a true yellow and will last the longest?

Thanksssss

I use an yellow ebay bulb. They've been fine the last 6 months and only cost $5 for a pair. I'll upload a pic of them later.

Yellow is best at NOT reflecting light back at you. this makes it easier to see the road in rainy conditions.

is 55watt correct for a fog light? sounds high?

I've searched the bulbs in the service manual. They are the same ones I've been using.

I have to bring this thread a little back from a 2 month hibernation...

My buddy with an '07 2.5i is experiencing the exact same thing. I've read and 'think' the issue is with replacing only one bulb at a time. This overloads the other bulb through a difference in resistance, leading to the other bulb being blown out in 3 months.

Experiment: try replacing both at the same time. I believe they will last longer than 3 months. They're a bitch to get to, so we normally only do the burned out one... which is why everyone seems to have issues!
