Default Looks like I am over boosting 29psi !! 2012 WRX

Hi,

I have a 2012 WRX. It has

Agency Power Unequal Length Header. with Up Pipe

Catted Invidia Turbo-Back exhaust. and AEM CAI.

It also has OTS map. a Normal Wastegate Stage 2.

I felt the over boost. so I tried to monitor using my AccessPort for the first time.

I tried to methods because I am not so sure which is right, so I tried both

first I tried

Monitor then Live Log then Boost. I accelerated to maybe 4 RPM

and I saw some 19.5 or 6 Psi.

Then I tried the other method which was

Monitor > Live Log > Boost target

And I saw almost this !!

Am I boosting to 29psi ?!!

I am planning to have a custom tune soon, with 2 to 3 weeks from now.

So from now until then, what can I do? Shall I go with anther OTS map?

Thanx.

Hey Zooooom,

The best way for anyone here to start looking at your issue is to post a data log. I'd suggest logging a WOT 3rd gear run if you can do one safely, just make sure you watch your boost and immediately stop if you're pushing over 20psi

we arent trying to be dbags about it, but you should know that an ots map is a no go. i wouldnt even a do log, keep it out of boost until you are tuned.

You aren't actually boosting that high, for some reason they set the desired target to 29.

"Boost Target" is what the engine control unit (ECU) is targeting, not what boost you are actually seeing. For that, you want to monitor "Boost". The reason why you see something so high as 29 psi is not because the map would normally target that high for peak boost, but because we tune a 1st gear compensation to create an aggressive boost target (in 1st only). Cars will have difficulty hitting the normal peak boost target in 1st, so causing the ECU to be aggressive in that gear gives you better response off-the-line than the normal boost tune would otherwise afford (and you won't overboost in 1st regardless).

1st you shouldnt be running an OTS map with your mods. 2nd, the OTS maps from Cobb have the 1st gear boost target multiplier set add 25%(i think it was 25%) more target boost so that the car will try to build more boost in first. Although it will never reach that target.

Basically, its so you pull harder in first without over boosting in the rest of the gears. Now stop being an asshat and get your car tuned properly.

Good to know that. I made an appointment two weeks from today.

It's your Air Fuel Ratio that I would be most concerned with. LWG map isn't going to help save anything.

Put your car in economy mode so you run as little boost as possible and just drive it normally until you get your tune.

You should make sure you are running the +AEM map. This can be downloaded from the maps section at cobbtuning.com. Running the stock intake map (i.e. the one that comes with the AccessPORT) will cause you to run lean with that intake.

Headers are somewhat outside of the scope of the off-the-shelf (OTS) maps, but not generally a problem as long as you are not exceeding the peak boost designated in the map notes (also in maps section at cobbtuning.com). If you are getting a tune anyway, you can run the most conservative map (91ACN SLWG).
