Default loud winding sound

when i started my car up (cold start) there was a very loud winding sound and it got quieter when the engine warmed up but i could hear it when turning and accelerating. I just got home and checked my front differential fluid and its all there but there were bubbles on the front diff. stick. anyone have any ideas?

it sounded like it was coming from the alternator. But i just started my car again and the noise was completely gone.

It's the alternator or power steering. Happens to me every morning.

Oh okay I also checked my power steering fluid and it was good. Does this indicate anything bad?

Start your car leave it running and take the P/S reservoir cap off if you see a lot of bubbles/foam you have a leak somewhere in the system. Also make sure the P/S fluid level is correct.

I have the same thing. Only happens in cold weathers. Its normal. IDK what it is but I have 95xxx miles on my 06 wrx and its fine. Maintenance was superb throughout all miles.

I'm having the same issue...but when i checked my p/s fluid, it was dirtier than a Bangkok working girl. I'm going to drain it and refill it this weekend.

i had the same problem and it was ait in the power steering pump. all that is needed is to replace the o-ring and it fixes the problem. no need for new pump
