FWIW all "cricket" issues aren't really issues, it's just a byproduct of the type of pump. Plenty of other DI cars make the same noise, but people are losing their **** over it on the ft86club forums for no reason. I would recommend NOT having anything replaced, as there isn't really anything wrong and there's more than a few reports of dealers messing up the install, leading to further issues.
If you get a CEL for the idle dip issue, get that fixed ASAP as I've heard it's trashing motors for people who don't get it fixed right away.

A question for you current owners. This is my first car with a helical differential, and I notice some oddness from the rear. I've had a couple pick-ups, a 350Z, and a Firebird V-8 and never noticed so much gear lash. At least what I perceive as gear lash or slop that seems to be coming from the rear end. It also seems to make a slight "clink" sound after upshifting and letting the clutch out quickly. Anyone else have this experience?

We'll find out, I'm putting in the Perrin Shifter and Trans Bushings this weekend. But, I don't know if I got used to it, I don't really notice it now.

Don't feel bad if 2nd gear is difficult to engage or you get a crutch for the first few miles in the morning. It seems normal for this transmission after talking to other BRZ owners.
Concerning the break-in. When I bought a 2011 WRX, I drove it hard after the first 500 miles. I used MotoMan's break-in method and, after 21k miles when I traded it in for my BRZ, it never burned oil. For my BRZ, I followed the factory break-in procedure of not exceeding 4k RPM and varying RPM and throttle for the first 1000 miles. My BRZ now has 5000 miles, is driven hard daily (rev'd out), and hasn't burned any oil as well. |
