Default Chicago tint ticket

I just got my car tinted over the weekend. 50% front, 35% back and winshield top which is state legal.

I was told that I might still get ticket in Chicago. I live in the suburb but work in Chicago Bridgeport area.
I park in company private parking all day so I figured that I should be ok.

What are the chances I'll get a ticket if I street park, like in China town?
Will Chicago eventually accept the new state tint law? Soon??

I got 35% in the front and 5% in the rear, never had problem with the cops, had my tints for almost a year.. So you should be good.. But there are some cops that really got nothing to do, or just got pissed of so they'll pick on anything

Chicago police are SUPPOSED to follow state law.

Chicago police WILL ticket you for tints. You could be driving through from Florida and get a ticket. It's bull****, I know.

I was told at the tint shop (Umbra) that Chicago does not yet recognize the new state law plus some cops just don't care. I hope I don't get ticket by an ignorant cop when I go out to lunch..

I don't think they ticket "out-of-staters". Mainly because it's legal to have tints in the state they reside in. They can't hand out tickets for not having a front license plate to IN or WI drivers either, since it's legal in their state to have no front plate.

My tint place told me the same thing a few weeks ago (shaded days). They said the Chi cops were writing the tint tickets to parked cars, so there was no argument.

If a cop pulls me over for my tints I'm gonna pop a cap in his ass, which will be easy as he wont see my 9 as he comes up to my window.

uh... when i argued it with the cop when i got my ticket he told me 30% all the way around is legal nothing more. anyways... for it to hold up in court they would have had to meter it and not give an opinion like mine did. ask for the ticket to go to trial. (stand and defend in front of the judge) you inform them like i did, that there was no paper or light meter held up to the window to properly measure the tint. therefore opinion can not hold up in court. i won. you will too.

(brother is a state trooper and also informed me that TECHNICALLY (they) have decible meters also in their cars to find out if exhaust AND stereos are too loud) once a judge knows that you have this info well your all gravy baby

How can they ticket and give a % when the window has to be down for the light meter to work?

no how it works it they open the door. and the meter reads transmitted light thru the tint. they make you roll all the windows up and check all windows.

yeah i never understood that. in indiana you can even tint the front window (not sure if you need a note for that tho) but you can go black as night.. your allowed to carry a gun on you but the ammo has to be stored in a different location (ie locked glove box, or trunk) first of all who says there gonna seperate the ammo. but they drive across the border all the time with hand guns in the car and that was ok for an illinois cop to pull them over and not worry, f that. the state needs the money tint is tax revenue and jobs. so f them for wanting to make the state detroit like. ( by the way did you know titn shops have to be authorized by the state now to tint... lil license they need from the state to tint.) ha ! what about the average guy that goes to walmart for tint ??

you cant even LEGALLY give a ticket to a parked car for expired license plates or anything else. only for a parking violation. otherwise this a moving violation

Chicago has common law that was passed back in the 1900's when the state government recognized that most of their governed body resided in one small district of the state. Common law allows Chicago courts to interpert any laws or statues as they see fit. Chicago courts are seeing the tint law still a hazard to police officers.

what people dont know is that factory windows come with a tiny amount of tint. i was told this by a body man whos been in the business for a while. an example he gave me was if u get 35% on a window, the meter the cops use will come up around 27 or 28%. kinda weird but just a thought

The guy at the shop told me that as well - with the factory tint, applying 35% tint will result in about 30% total.

you're tints are illegal. If you have darker than 35% in the rear, you can't go darker than 50% up front. that's how the law is written IIRC, so if you get a ticket, you can't bitch about it.

See the tint thread:

and the law:
