Default 2.5l with 1.8l heads

Hey everyone,

I'm sure people have asked this time and it time again , but I love stirring up controversy, so lets do this

I have a 2.5 block out of a 99 legacy outback.
Heads off of a 95 impreza coupe 1.8l.

Now I have heard of this but I want some more input before I go about doing it.

Head gasket sizing, cooling problems, leaving he heads stock or not.

Also.... I have 2.5 delta cams, and I'm wondering if I should put them in the 1.8heads or if they will even fit. Thanks everyone

What you describe is called a frankenstein engine. There is an entire thread dedicated to it. Search for freankenstein and read.

Everyone goes off topic and starts throwing out stuff that costs n ungodly amount of money. So I'm just looking for some input myself.

Also I have 2.5 delta 1500 cams. Wondering if those will fit in the 1.8 heads

The 2.5 cams will not fit in the 1.8 heads. I would do the dual port ej22 heads on the ej25 block and not the 1.8 heads.

Could you speculate more? And what about the delta cams in the 2.2 heads?

The 2.2 heads do flow just a bit better than the 1.8 heads. Delta regrinds will work in a 2.2 roller or pad style head but there are two grinds for the hla roller/pad style the 220 torque grind or the hp 230 grind. The solid adjuster roller 2.2 rocker assembly only gets the 200 torque grind. All these are phase 1 2.2 heads. The phase 2 2.2 head can take the delta 1500 or 1000 delta.

What are the restrictions like motor size, suspension, bolt-ons, and internal engine work?

So far the only class this type of car I can see classifying in would be scan modified class. But that's running with the big boys I'm sure. But as far ad I can on the r.es there's no real limitation to much of anything

A 2.5 block, 2.2 dual port heads and delta 220 torque grind cams with an exhaust that flows a bit better than stock or simply a straight through muffler and there will be lots of torque for what you want to do. There is a hybrid cometic head gasket for the 2.5 bore and 2.2 head coolant passages.

What condition is the 2.5 block in? Can you find 95 2.2 dual port heads?

I actually have 2.2,dual ported heads, am also making a 2.2l with 2.5 dohc heads along side a wrx td04 setup. But I'm not familiar with delta cams. I have a set of 1500's that's all I know, are you saying I can get them regrinded? Sorry for the newbness.. Scoobytuners tuner in training lol and are cometic headgaskets mfi ? Because I've seen people talking about next gen wrx headgaskets and how thy work better then felpro and some others with Subaru. Curious as to your take and if the head gaskets match the block or the head, because I have seen different things as well. That's why I started this new thread.

High compression. More wear.

Forged pistons also wear... And because of the required (larger) piston to wall clearance even faster than stock cast pistons.

Do you have the solid lash adjuster 2.2 heads found on the 97- 2001 impreza 2.2 or the HLA heads?

I may be getting rid of my Delta 2.2L Phase I torque grind CAMS. PM me if you're interested. I was going to do a 2.2L/2.5L HCF but have decided to just go all 2.5.
