Pros: Shifts your power to the left, increases efficiency, and holds boost rock solid (this with a simple mbc)

Cons: must think about what spring u need in your ex gate, more parts to break and this failing can cause engine damage, sound

IWGs are not typically in the most advantagious of locationsand the flapper style gate is turbulent and they typically do not flow as much as an EWG.

As far as improvements in spool-up, I think a lot of that goes hand in hand with EBCS upgrades and the tunes that are done hand in hand with EWGs and has nothing to do with the gates themselves. During spool up the gates are closed. Closed is closed regardless of what style the gate is. Unless target boost is lower than the capable boost, the gate should be closed.

As far as parts failing like catface noted. The actuators have the same parts, IWG or EWG. They both a diaphram, spring and other bits to do their job. As far as betting on which one goes 100K miles problem free, I'd bet on OEM. It does take some thought to determine spring pressure, but not a lot (half target boost is a safe bet).

The EWG will modulate and control boost more accurately than an IWG and will definitely flow better, but if you're not having problems with the IWG or boost creep I'd leave it. I wouldn't spend that kind of money (gate, tune, install, etc...) for the marginal power gains, I think there's better places to spend that money.
