I'm finding it tough to gather info on the ver5/6 engines. Doesn't seem like there's a lot of swapping going on with those and we're not importing them yet. Though it'd be a long time after we import before anyone probably works on/tunes them.
Thinking the version 8 ej207 would be best then for my 350whp needs, swapped into my 93 impreza L heh. |

If I'm not mistaking the only difference between the v5 and v6 207 is that Subaru issued a clutch upgrade but after you've changed it out then I suppose there's no difference at all. And if I'm not mistaking the lack of lubrication in the crank is why the 20K isn't preferred over the 207 because they are somewhat prone to spinning bearings. The v7/8/9 has AVCS which the 5/6 doesn't. iirc

AVCS is supposed to be godly haha. And I'm sure tuning for the 7/8/9 is a lot easier because it can be done with a tactrix cable. You can flash the ecu without having to go to an expensive aftermarket.
I think my new goals are to put in an ej20k into my 93 impreza because those engines are damn cheap. Then slap in rob's new tune when it's ready ![]() |

All ver5/6 STi have forged pistons and rods. *EDIT*Ver 5/6/7 ej207's have Forged Pistons, and the Ver 8/9 ej207's have Cast hypereutectic pistons.
I'm in the middle of a ver5 Type-R swap right now. It's the best engine I've ever owned! I like the ver5/6 ej207's, and I'm thinking about putting some Ver9 Heads on my Ver5 Type-R. If you replace the rods and bearings on the ver5/6 207 when you get it, they are bad ass engines. Last edited by WelDun1; 05-05-2013 at 01:24 AM. |

The amount of misinformation that floats around the place makes me not take anything for granted. How long was it that people thought that the EJ22T (which is actually designated EJ22B according to my own research and what was stamped on a set of 2.2 turbo HG I had purchased - if I'm wrong, somebody tell me) had forged pistons and that all GC8 engines had CD blocks.

All EJ20K STI engines and all EJ207 engines have forged pistons up to 2005. After that they were hyperteutic cast. The stronger rods came in the 2001 and later EJ207 STI engines.

Nope, the v7 had forged pistons also, the ver8 onwards have hypereutectic pistons. I know because i recently replaced my jdm sti ver5 shortblock to a jdm sti ver8 and did a lot of research. The version 8 jdm bottom end is the toughest of them all, but the v9 had better heads. |

With everything like the dash and hubs Knuckles let alone the rare 5mt and that diff and the rare rear hubs not mutalated ? No you don't but I do because I buy these things every day ! Your v7 comes with motor tranny diff and what options like brakes for 7k + !! Yeah, I mean anyone who chops the axles instead of simply popping out the roll pin and undoing the axle nut to remove them, snips wiring instead simply undoing it at the connector, and slashes lines/hoses instead of properly undoing them is so stupid on so many levels. They're not saving themselves any money by taking these "shortcuts", they're just needlessly devaluing their own products.
But unfortunately, that's what you're buying from these suppliers. |
