Default STI Cluster in Bugeye WRX

I unddertand that this topic has been gone over before but I have seen some conflicting information online so I just wanted to confirm.

I was under the impresion that the 04 USDM STI cluster is a direct plug and play for my WRX as well as the 05 USDM STI cluster.

However I have been told that the temperature guage will not be functional is this correct?

Also what other year STI Cluster will fit in without modification?

Thanks Guys.

2002-2007 WRX will need no modifications with a 2004 sti cluster
2002-2007 WRX will need the cluster harness for 2005-2007 clusters.

I have an 05 cluster and harness in my saab 9-2x (WRX) and it works perfect. The cluster harness can be picked up from ebay. Here is info that i wrote on another forum.

Thanks a lot man, this post and thread really helped clear up any misconceptions I had

I've had two different 05 STi clusters in my 02 and 03. You do NOT need to buy another cluster harness. A little trimming and they all fit fine but there are some other little things to make it work without blowing a fuse or humming.

I just bought the clusteroff a member on here, Thanks for the help guys.

The only question I have now is will I have to do any trimming to install the 2004 USDM STI Cluster in my 2002 bugeye? Some people say a wire needs to be snipped others say that it will plug and play with no issues....any confirmed info??

If i remember right its just the green b28 wire that needs to be cut. Super simple. I have the 05 sti cluster in my 03 and i had to cut the b28 and a yellow wire. Search on nasioc its been covered a couple times.

Getting the harness prevents you from being GHETTO. I bet your cruise light doesnt light up does it. But the set does. I also bet you cant set your shift light and the gauge is funky when you turn it on and off. Besides, why would you modify a perfectly good cluster? What is you want to part the car out later or just sell it because you found a baller UK cluster? If it hums, or doesnt fit (which any 02-07 should with no prob) or blows fuses....make it so it is without being GHETTO!

Wouldnt have to do that if you got the cluster harness. You can find them all day long on ebay for 30ish!

I wrote a VERY detailed description on what are different HERE. Peep posts #38 and #42!

Don't get your panties in a bunch. I don't have either 05 STi cluster anymore. I sold them both and both people who purchased them have been using them for years carefree and no problems. And never did I say you have to 'modify' the cluster itself. Also, there were NEVER any problems with the cruise, shift light or anything. Go find a 'baller cluster'!
