Default 92 Legacy is this torque bind?

So I just purchased a 92 Legacy wagon with 315,000kms on it. I got the Subaru because I drive on logging roads frequently to and from work. The AWD is key. I'm new to these cars and with guidance I can get things fixed. Any help with this problem would be appreciated.

When I bought the car the fwd fuse was in so I tried pulling it out. The car seemed to be fine while in awd except when driving between 40-60km/hr. The car struggles hard. Once I accelerate out of that 60km gear it seems to be fine again. It only seems to be happening at that speed like while in 3rd gear (maybe 2nd).
Is this torque bind to the extreme? I'm thinking that a simple tranny flushing isn't going to fix it.
I've replaced the fuse for now because most speed limits are around 50km/hr around here. And the lurching is annoying and I don't think good for the car.
Has anyone else had this issue. How did you fix it?
