Default 2005 sti not reaching target boost

I have on 05 sti with short ram intake and 3 in cat back exhaust running 93 oct stage 1. I can't get the car to push more than 8 psi with the normal stage one and I can get 9 psi with the high waste gate map. My waste gate load doesn't go over 75% when full throttle in 3rd gear with I'm pretty sure means its not closing fully and I'm losing boost to the world, I read that you can adjust the waste gate by loosening the lock nut on the solenoid and the turning the rod either clockwise or counter clockwise my question is has anyone done this or have any other ideas as to why I'm not reaching my target boost of 16 psi? No other issues with the motor everything is running like it should across the board and there are zero vacuum leaks. Can someone help me?

List of mods? Sounds like you have a boost leak somewhere

Short ram intake stock down pipe 3in cat back and AP stage 1 as far as motor I'm thinking my wastegate isn't closing fully and needs adjustment

If I recall properly you can't adjust the wastegate on the vf39. Maybe you have a preturbo leak, header or uppipe

Check the boost control hoses.

I just thought about it and it wouldn't be those hoses cause my air fuel ratio would be messed up and it's not, what should my waste gate load read at full throttle?

My brother had the same problem he couldn't boost above 10 psi he bought a new boost control (Grimspeed) and had it tuned and the problem was gone. Maybe it's the hoses on the boost control or the pill on the "t" hoses?

There are many reasons why a particular car will underboost compared to the peak target specified in the map. Wastegate duty will not hit 100% - what you are seeing (around 75% at WOT) is around what is expected for the high wastegate map. Some questions:

1. Do you have a version 1 or version 2 Accessport? The version 2 Accessport is the current version with the color screen. If you have the version 2, then try to get a 4th or 3rd gear wide open throttle (WOT) data log from 2500 RPM on up if you can do so safely (see data logging video below).

2. Did you buy the car used? If so, did you ever determine if you were boosting normally when you bought it? Sometimes when you see severe underboost with a used car it is because the previous owner had mods that required removing the restrictor pill or using one with a larger diameter hole. They may remove those mods but not mess with installing the correct restrictor pill. Boost hardware info can be found here:
http://www.cobbtuning.com/Technical-...es-s/70674.htm

3. What brand short ram intake do you have? Although it won't effect your boost issue, you must only use the Cobb SF or stock intake with our off-the-shelf (OTS) maps. Using other intakes could potentially cause engine damage without a custom calibration.

I have the version 2 with the color screen, when I bought the car it was only pushing about 3 psi I replaced the tgv sensor and it jumped up to 7 psi but I had a cylinder misfire, I put the stage 1 tune on and the misfire went away and it ran alot smoother I'm pretty sure whoever had the car before I'm pretty sure had an upgraded turbo and a down pipe and were running a stage 2 I was about to check the pill last night but got called away to an emergency. The short ram looks like some auto zone bull crap and I noticed last night the C clip that should be on the waste gate that connects the solenoid it's not there and it looks like it is welded. Ill have to find a straight enough road to test 4th WOT I live on an island so it's a little tough sometimes lol

I would first replace the intake with the proper one (stock or Cobb SF). An unsupported intake can potentially cause major fueling and timing issues. I would also suggest taking the car to an experienced Subaru tuning shop and have them do a once-over on the car (including compression and leak-down test). You want to know what you are dealing with. I would also consider getting all maintenance items checked (that may have not have been completed by previous owner), including spark plugs, fuel filter, etc.

You can get a 3rd gear run instead, if you can do so safely. But, I would replace the intake first and have someone look over the car before doing any more WOT pulls.

I had the same issue, kinda. Mine was hitting 11-12psi on the stage 1 tune, and for giggles I threw the stage 2 on and it jumped to 13-14. I though it was a boost controller, and replaced it with a stock one but it did not fix it. I figured out later that the cats were plugged when I pulled them off and put a DP on.

I'm not even hitting that much, and I doubt a clogged cat would cause a 7 psi loss, I'm gonna take a look and see if that pill is in the T hose cause I'm trying to do the easiest things first before I find out I gotta drop some read money into stuff

There isn't a huge market out here, there are only about 10 wrx & sti in the area and I know everyone just about so getting parts in a hassle and even the dealership has to order them

The restrictor pill was the issue, popped that little pill in there and it was a day and night difference. Forgot to change the high waste gate tune and was pushing 18.5 psi lol once I put the regular tune on there it's down to my target 16 psi, thanks to everyone and there input much cheaper than the route I was gonna go
