Default STI and UTEC please help

I need help in a hurry, please
This afternoon I put down a holding deposit for an STI which is coming to Canada in April/May 2003. Yes no BS. The dealers in Western Canada were told friday.

I would like to know if the UTEC will/would work on the STI as it has AVCS.

Please guys I just want to know if the UTEC would work on the STI. I'm not into creating rumours. I have UTEC being shipped this week from Turboxs(first batch) to replace my Unichip and don't want to bother Mark anymore than I already do. Fantastic people to deal with as everyone knows.

I will stay with Unichip for now if this version of the UTEC doesn't work and can't be upgraded later to work on the STI.

I'm 100% sure the dealers will not be the first ones to know when the STI will be here. There are THOUSANDS of people on this site that probably check every day for info on the STI. It will be all over the I club. Sorry but your dealer doesn't know what they are talking about. Subaru wants to keep it quiet to not hurt the sales of the WRX.

I don't think I would put anything on my car without haveing TXS, Cobb, Vishnu etc. looking into it first. You don't want to destroy the STI do you?

I would expect the UTEC to work as well with the STi as it does with the WRX. Since it's a piggyback, it can let the stock STi ECU handle AVCS control (as well as closed-loop, starting, etc.). In most other respects (sensor-wise) the STi and WRX are identical.

I haven't heard anyone on this board that knows exactly how AVCS is actuated because well, there are very few here that have new-age STi engines. My advice right now is: Don't worry about it. Put the Utec in your current car and if it doesn't work with the STi, sell it.

BTW, I hate to be the bearer of obvious news, but your dealer is feeding you a huge line of BS and is just making money off your deposit while you sit and wait. If they can't show you a brochure with a 2003/4 Canadian STi, then they have no more clue than you do.

I agree. I would NOT run the UTEC without the stock ECU in it though....both the play it safe and to control the AVCS. I might also let someone else give a UTEC a test run in an STi first
BTW Anyone at TXS should be more than happy to answer a question or two for you....the UTEC gives them a pretty good chunk of change. Make em work for their money.

The AVCS is activated via a rpm based trigger. I spoke with TXS and they said the current U-Tec programming does not support this type of trigger , but the hardware does support it (meaning the extra wire is there the software just isn't ready yet)
I was very interested in swapping to STI Heads on my USDM block so i did the research. hope that helps.

P.S. I concur that the STI won't be here next year. In my opinion, if it ever comes, it's just going to be an added trim package. More than likely SOA will do awar with most of the goodies that make the STI the brainchild that it is. The lancer evo is slated to lose it's active diff., and most of the really cool electronics that would make us want it.
