Default 95 impreza 1.8L no start

Hello everyone, kinda new to the forum but am having a problem i hope someone can help me with.

I was driving a few days ago and I was accelerating from a stop and my car would not rev past 2000 rpm. It felt like it just cut power after i hit 1500 rpm or so. I pulled over and it idled just fine for a bit and then died. I got it to start a couple times but it would die shortly after and again would rev past 2000 rpm. I got my car towed back home and not it will not start at all. any help? pointers? I dont have a fuel pressure gauge but i loosened a line and got fuel out. i pulled 3 plugs and they look ok. anything will help.

You need fuel, air, and spark to run.

My first guess would be a lack of spark. Check the connection to your coil pack, plug wires, spark plugs, crank sensor, and ignitor. If you have a multimeter, report back and I can give you some specs to check to see if you can find the culprit.

You don't need a multimeter to check for spark.

Remove the spark plug wire, and stick a screwdriver in there and then put the shaft of the screwdriver close to metal so the spark has somewhere to ground out. Have someone turn the car over.

If you see spark, then you have spark. If not then you can start using a multimeter or a test light to find the issue.

Which fuel line, before or after the fuel filter? If before the filter, check after it, maybe the filter needs to be changed?

Your original issue sounds like a clogged CAT. I've dealt with a few over the years and lack of power and a refusal to rev are among the signs.

When it cranks, does it spin normal, or slower than usual?

It is getting spark. I checked it before the filter, but the filter was replaced about 8 months ago but i will check it after.

And now that you mention it, it could have been a little slower then normal. Next time I get a chance to look at it I will try and check the cats out.

So I was told by someone to check my cam position sensor and look for about 22 ohms. i checked mine and only got like 1.7-1.8 ohms. any thoughts? is 22 the correct spec?

Also, does anyone have electrical specs for sensors and injectors and anything else that might help?

Don't make it to hard. Pull the injector plug and check for signal. pull a spark plug and check for compression.

I got my hands on a fuel pressure test kit. hooked it up before and after the fuel pump, absolutely no pressure reading. loosened a line and no fuel coming out under pressure. I think I must have released the last of the pressure when I first checked.

I checked for voltage at the fuel pump, I disconnected the connector at the pump and found only 4.3 volts at one of the pins. Is it supposed to be a full 12v?

Alright, so car ran fine all day and night yesterday, and this morning. went out to it after work to go home and it started and ran for about 5 seconds and died.

I havnt gotten a chance to check anything out yet but does anyone have any ideas? could there be a short somewhere that is frying my fuel pump?

If the pump was only getting 4.3 volts then it is pretty safe to say that there is a short somewhere in the wiring for the fuel pump. Get a multimeter and make sure that you are not getting any resistance in the power wire to ground. The pump should be receiving 12 volts when the key is on. You should also be able to hear it prime for a couple seconds when you first turn the key.

You can visually check the wires as well. I've owned a few old subarus and have found that rats and mice like to burrow right on top of the fuel sending unit and chew up the wires.

So i turned the key to on, heard relays click and the fuel pump prime. It started just fine and died a few seconds later, again. No fuel pressure. The fuse is good, the relay is good and is getting 12v.

Does anyone have a schematic or diagram of where the wires go? I tried to trace them and it looked like they went into the the body under the seats, but i removed the seat and it looked like it went under the body. I looked under the body and the only wires i found went back into the body. any help?
