Default Hello. I have Subaru converstion project I can use all the hlep I can get.

Hello everyone,

My name is Tony.
A little bit about me and why I signed up:
Iím 53, a retire mechanic with too much time on my hands.
I forgot more than I knew and Iím a car nut. GGG

I have a current Subaru conversion project in mind that I could use all the help I can get from those in the know here.
I want to put a Subaru power plant with automatic in the back of one of these.

If you have never seen one of these; they are known as an Ultra Van.
Most of which are powered by a Corvair air-cooled flat six automatic.

It will be a GAS Pusher.
NOTE: The Subaru power plant will sit in the back of the coach - just like it did when it was in the front of a Subaru. So it will be a mid-engine project.

I want this coach to have todayís technology with EFI that will hopefully get better mileage, have better torque, and be easier to find parts and fix when needed.

I like the idea of the newer 3rd gen Subaru engine with timing chains over timing belts.
But it does have to be an automatic.

But which power plant and donor Subaru will be the best one for this project? That is where the members, in the know, here can help someone like me who honestly does not have a clue.
The last time I even worked on a Subaru was in the mid 90's. I've wanted to do this Subaru conversion project since 2008.

The project coach I have in mind for this arrived on May 9th and I like to gain as much usable information as possible before I do buy that donor Subaru.

Please help.
Thanks ahead of time you your help and support!
Sincerely, Tony

Thanks!
We are blessed to have 5 now and at least one more coming this year - if all goes as planned.
3 are Corvair
1 is Chevy V8 (small block)
1 will be our custom coach that I purchased a 98 or 99 Olds LLS fully loaded donor car for its 3.8LT supercharged power plant.
And the sixth one - to heopfully be here later this summer has a 69 Toronado FWD mounted in the back.

Now if I only knew which Subaru power plant best fits all the requirements of this coach - UV231.
If all 2.5 = Timing belts - that means I'm left with 3.0 vs 3.6 and what they have to offer to choose from.

Torque is key with this kind of project and not the HP that most would love to have and maybe talk about.

Hopefully the project will be interesting enough to gain help and support from members here. Fingers crossed. GGG

Tony
