If you have a question that isn't complicated, just ask SIRI or google it.

It'll keep you from looking stupid. Just about as stupid as thinking an External waste gate was similar to vtech.......

I need a real expert to tell me the true difference between these two engines. mainly the differences with the block and heads. I already know about the intercooler, turbo and everything outside of the block and head. I want to know the truth about the insides.

Also experts, please tell me why there is a rumor that the ej255 heads flow better than the ej257?

semi deck? open deck?

vf43 vs vf39

piston differences?

rod differences?

valvetrain differences?

top feed vs side feed fuel injection differences?

crankshaft differences?

sleeve differences?

noobs keep your misinformations and speculations to yourselves. I need experts to tell us the truth.

Did you try doing a search at all? Ej255 is a WRX motor, aka Piston Dish style A. Ej257 is an STI motor, aka Piston Dish style B. For 99% of the process that is the only difference. These attribute to a slightly different compression ration. At some points the Ej257 crank is treated differently, but for the most part, the biggest difference is the pistons. Note we're talking just the short block, so head's are not coming into play.

Ej255vsEj257 in your question does not mean heads. If you want to talk heads, specify via the head code. In your question you go from short block, to entire engine assembly and back again. You said you didn't care about the turbos, but then ask about a VF39 and 43. Neither of which came tied to the EJ255 stock in North America.

I'm sure I missed a few things, and left out others. However this has all been covered since 2006 when the WRX gained a 2.5L motor.

You posted the thread at 5:30 am eastern time. Then made this bump of a post about 20 views around 7am easter time. You need to give people more then 2 hours at 5 am on a Saturday to answer. Especially since all of this has been answered numerous times in numerous spots. Even linked to this thread are the answers you need.

uncle scotty, have you tried writing ej255 vs ej257 in the google box and read many of the threads that came up on top. almost all of them don't get into specifics, nor do they have unifying and definitive answers. that is why I asked here directly into the 2.5 turbo forums. this is why we have forums right?

The Ej255 and EJ257 haven't changed enough to really be noted in a long time. Like I said in my first post.

I reopen the thread for the OP after he yells and complains about violating a swear filter, then he leaves.

Just Ask and You Shall be Flamed
Most enthusiasts are using the Internet to research and figure out what parts they want or what might look good on their new project, and they’re faced with a mind-blowing number of options—some good, some bad. Oftentimes they’ll post up photos or questions in regard to their builds on the forums, and they’re typically ripped apart by the guys who have been around for a number of years. This in turn will have them lashing out (similar to the nasty email I received), or they’ll simply move on to something else with a bad taste left in their mouth. It’s a cycle that I’ve noticed for quite some time, but it seems to be getting much more intense at this point.

A Little Help Over Here?
My thought is, maybe the guys who have been doing this for a while should forgo the insults and noob-bashing, and instead educate them a bit, offer some insight so to speak. It’s certainly a fine line to walk since stating facts or even personal experience can often be interpreted as sarcasm or talking down to someone, especially on the faceless, emotionless web. Nevertheless, lending a hand takes but a few keystrokes and probably won’t keep you away from that new episode of the Kardashians for too long. Who knows, you might even change someone’s entire outlook on this community with no more than a few seconds of your time. Am I asking you to hold hands and be a big brother? Absolutely not, but keep in mind, like any community (that’s what this is, by the way), the elders are usually relied upon for guidance and answers.

Keeps getting better and better. If he would have just used the search feature like a normal person would do when looking for an answer to a question , it would have saved time and space.

He claims that there is no good information on the differences between the two, but I know that's false because I've answered that question on this forum at least 6 times in detail myself! And I know I'm not the only one who has taken the time to do that.
