Ok guys Ive recently gotten into the market for a subaru after my buddy really got me hooked in his 2011 wrx hatch but myself im looking at a 08-10 sti hatch and have found some pretty good deals but ive done a little bit of research and have a grasp on the mechnics of most cars (mostly NA cars). Recently I found a pretty clean 2008 sti hatch with 70,000miles that cosmetically was sound has minimal mods ( ie Perrin CAI, kartboi short shifter, BOV...ps i know they arent good for sti's been through those threads believe me, Volk te37) all great starter mods (-bov) i believe but however there where something that made me feel a little unsure so I would like to run them by you guys and see if i can get a concensous on if these are normal things or if it would end up hurting me in the end. First off the shifter while in gear the shifter had a lot of play so much so i didnt know i was in gear the first time after having them raise it and looking at the shifter bushings and finding them quite loose they were tightened but yet the problem still remaind, any thoughts? Second, Ive never owned a car with racing wheels so i dont know they ride btw it has a bone stock suspension but while driving i noticed some shimmy is this just being caulked up to some less than mediocre tires or should i be concerned about something else? and Third and most importantly while putting it through its paces on a test drive ( because lets be honest you know dont know a car until you have dug in its rearend a little bit
) I took it through 1st with no problems after putting it hard through second while shifting to third i noticed i barely had to touch it before it felt like it wanted to jump out of second at the moment i recalled a previous thread on here i had read on a Car and Drive road test they did on the 08 sti in which they had the same problem and eventually all it took was a hard accel to knock it out of second this problem was covered by the warranty (which the car in question would not be) and they replaced the entire trans and knowing that the sti trans is very stout i was wondering if anyone has come across this same problem or is it just my infamilarity with such a kind of trans. I apologize if you have read all of this before i did try to find some info before posting but nothing particularly applied to my metaphorical pickle. Thank you for any information, knowledge, and advice you might be able to spare for me.

English? Seriously this is a big ol wall of text no one wants to read through. If you are thinking about buying a car, have it professionally inspected.
I'm guessing it isn't tuned. Running that intake on there is a fast track to blowing up the car. Racing wheels have .0001% to do with how the car rides. And as far as this topic really goes, this is what you need to read. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1679821 |
