Whats going on NASIOC, my buddy has a 2012 wrx, 15,000 miles and the turbo seals or piston ring in the turbo as some say went. Smaoke on start up and oil coming through the BOV. He wants to upgrade but not go crazy with it. Keep the motor somewhat stock. Obviously upgrade turbo, injectors, top mount etc.. Any ideas for him. Let me know please NASIOC.

Did you mean maybe ringland failure? Tell your buddy to get a compression test done and if it is under warranty just take it to Subaru. Turbo shouldnt be going out at 15k miles a little early for that as long as maint was kept up.

Your buddy should figure out what is wrong with the car before he thinks of throwing an upgraded turbo in there. Have him pull off the oil fill cap and let it idle. Look for smoke.
Also the VF52 is a good turbo..little too small at my altitude but its a great street turbo especially on E85. If I was near sea level I wouldn't upgrade. Was your friend on the stock tune and stock parts? |

I would have told this "buddy" to log on and make this thread instead of playing "telephone" with the info.
