Default Speaker Upgrade for 2012 Subaru Impreza 5 Door

I already have the upgraded kicker speakers in my Subaru Impreza and they are just not cutting it. I am looking to upgrade to some high quality speakers. Has anyone done an aftermarket speaker upgrade or have any idea of what speakers will work in a 2012 Subaru Impreza 5 Door Limited? Also any recommendations? Thank you in advance.

Not happy to see the factory upgrade is no good. I have the basic 6 speaker non-Kicker and they basically suck. Was hoping the Kicker setup would be better. In for info as well.

Its the head unit. You can only do so much with 10w per speaker.

Are there any options to replace the stock headunit but using adapters to retain the steering wheel controls and Bluetooth?

Wait. So are you saying the speakers are being limited by the stereo? So a speaker upgrade would not increase the amount of Watt output? Sorry I am kind of a newbie when it comes to car audio.

Also, the kicker speakers have pretty good sound quality. I am just looking for some more uumph. Also looking into getting a small subwoofer.

Would tweeters make much of a difference? Not to sure if I have them or not since I bought the car used? Is there a way to tell?

Yeah, pop off you plastic tweeter grilles and take a look. I believe every trim level, except for basic, comes with tweeters from the factory. I haven't done it yet, but I hear that upgrading to the Kicker tweeters makes a big difference.

So Kicker factory upgrade and aftermarket radio is the best option? How's the optional Kicker sub?

OP: I'm assuming you've already made the changes to your head unit via the "secret" menus available? If not, those changes help quite a bit.

I had the standard tweeters, which are actually more of a mid/tweeter. IMO, upgrading to the Kicker tweeters made my system sound more harsh, since the highs were accentuated even more, but I still have to replace my stock speakers.

Here are some photos of the standard mid/tweet vs. the Kicker tweeter:

Kicker left, standard right:

Anyone have a list of aftermarket tweeters that would fit with little to no modification?

Want to buy my kicker tweeters I just removed yesterday? They are the factory ones, and match the factory door speakers very nicely. I only removed them because I added component speakers.

60 shipped

^Which components did you end up getting? I have rattles all over the place with the speakers in the door, so I'm thinking about replacing them come spring + some dynamat as well

How hard was it to install the Polks? Did you just do the front? Big difference?

That's my plan for the front speakers as well, plus a new headunit as well. I was looking at the Alpine ICS-X7HD, pretty decent specs here

Feel free to share your thoughts on how they sound once you get them installed and everything

Would the Polk speakers even be much of an upgrade from the upgraded factory kicker speakers?[/quote]

I don't think so, all I gained was the crossover. If I had the kickers from the factory I probably wouldn't have changed then out.

Do you have the kicker tweeters?

Running the wires for the tweeters was a huge pain in the butt!. They sound much cleaner than the factory base speakers.

I'm not doing the rears, they are just fill anyway. I am running all 4 speakers off an alpine ktp445u

I am not sure if I have the kicker tweeters since I bought the car used; I am going to check tonight. I also changed the settings in the hidden menu as well and wow what a difference that made. Sounds so much better. I am definitely getting the kicker tweeters if i don't already have them.

Here you go

Basically disabling the built in EQ makes the stereo sound a lot better

Will check into that when I get on the full computer. Going from a few cars with great stereos, this cars' (even with the 6 speaker) was so "meh". I am planning on going from the "regular" radio to the non-nav screen radio in the Limited, as well as doing the full Kicker setup..
