Default How long to get your WRX?

I ordered my WRX wagon (Northeast PA) with a few extra options on August 28th, three weeks ago today, the order went in that day. The dealer told me 2-6 weeks, which I can accept. But I was just curious as to how long it took others to get their WRX's?

This particular dealership only sold 3 wrx's last year. The dealer said "they don't get very much business for the high performace cars" (Hence why he offered it to me for $100 over invoice, the same deal they offer on all their subarus)

Just wondering, thanks...

8-10 weeks

Boy I hope not, I need the car before it starts to snow!

I looked around for quite some time, most dealerships were VERY unwilling to deal and down-right insulting. I was getting pretty discouraged about finding a good deal when they all proved to be highly overly confident and downright pompous when after 10 seonds on the phone with this dealership he flat out states... "$100 over invoice sound good?"
Simmons Rockwell

Of course I can't recommend them to anyone just yet because I have yet to recieve the car, I've never even been to the dealership(although I've heard nothing but praise), I did everything over the phone ( they did fax a worksheet to me as proof however) The dealer's name was Blake.

P.s. to moderators: please don't move this thread over to dealers, at least not until I get some more responses as to how long it took to recieve their WRX.

I was planning on ordering one (I wanted Silver), my dealer told me 8 weeks minimum, 10 weeks maximum. The car has to come from Japan, there is no way around it. When my cousin was buying his BMW the dealer said he might be able to make a deal with another dealer to get one of theirs shipped from the docks (thats if the one at the dock was not already sold, just comming to the lot). I don't know if Subaru dealers do that.

I didn't want to wait, I took one off the lot and got a good deal on it. I couldn't be happier.

Took about 4-5 months to get mine. Got it for invoice, no extra cost. That was when the WRX first came out though, AND I live in Hawaii so everthing takes forever anyways.

Well I'm guessing that the car doesn't actually have to come all the way from Japan. What I mean is that there's probably a constant flow of them coming into the port. All of them Bone Stock with a random assortment of colors and body styles and once they arrive at the port, they take the "orders" as they come in and "build" them with the options requested. Sometimes individuals specify the options, sometimes the dealers specify the options. But I don't think Subaru says "make 50 of them with the short shifter and 30 of those with cross bars and then send them out to random dealership x,y,z" I think the dealer probably reqeusts each WRX. So I guess the important question is, how many other orders for silver wagons are there ahead of mine that need to be fulfilled before they get to mine. And then I'd know if mine is on a truck heading towards the dealership, at the port being built up, on a ship somewhere on the pacific, or being welded together on the assembly line. And one last thing to PilotFlame, the dealer had told me that it takes 1 week to get the vehicle once the invoice is recieved. So you should get it soon I guess.

It took me about an hour or two to buy one off the showroom floor becuase:

1. I had a ton of CRAP in the back seat of my truck (trade in)
2. Since it was in the showroom, they had to move crap out of the way AND woosh the doors open.
3. I also had to sign some paperwork if I remember correctly, LOL.

I'm still waiting for mine. I first contacted the dealership on 9/4, and told him I wanted a blue sedan. He told me they had one on the way, but he wasn't sure when. Then last week, he said his delivery report said "sometime in September," but his general manager said 9/18. Well, yesterday was 9/18, and no car. Now his delivery report says "sometime in October," but his general manager still thinks it'll be here this month. ARGH!!! I wish they could give me a better indication as to when it will be here. I'm going nuts!!!

Waiting is so hard...

hope this doesn't happen BUT
An unscrupulous salesman was willing to sell me a blue sedan on the spot for an overpriced $24,700 even though it was "promised" to someone else. But that was just one guy, the other 5 dealerships were pretty good about things and all said 4 weeks.

I'm just curious - how easy is it to come up with a good deal on a car you ordered - on one hand, the dealership has to love it because they sell the car without having to go through the expense of having it sit on the lot, while on the other hand, they probably have the "we're doing you a favor by ordering this car special for you" attitude...

I just figured out which options and color I wanted, then checked the Subaru website to see which dealerships had something which fit the bill, then went out to see what I could do pricewise - ended up getting what I wanted (with a few extra options) for $100 under invoice - car only had 6 miles on it...

Most of the options can be readily installed by the dealership, anyway, so all you really have to do is find the color you want and work out a good deal...

Yeah, I wish I could have taken something right off the lot, but the dealership that I purchased mine from has never stocked a WRX, they have only sold them through special order. So it really wasn't an option. There are two other dealerships around here with the vehicle configuration that I want in stock, however, those are the dealers I tried to deal with initially that would hardly budge. And it's probably not likely that a dealership will do a dealer trade on something that they know they can make money on. So considering I saved about $1300 off the next best quote, it's worth the wait. But needless to say... the suspense is killing me...

On a side note, I am finding it hard to believe that there are that many people that got their cars for under invoice, do you mean MSRP? Or did the dealer seriously take from his hold-back? Unless they were remaining 2002's that were purchased within the last 2 months, this seems very strange. Wyoming Valley Motors in Wilkes Barre has 2 - 2002 WRX's that they are willing to sell $700 below invoice, but after hearing the rumors of the transmission part upgrades as well as how much the car has depreciated since it is already a year old, they would have to come down about $2K off that invoice price before I'd look twice.

Man, that must stink waiting that long. I went to the dealer this afternoon, picked a 2003 off the lot and will be picking it up on Tuesday. I could have gotten it today, but they order all of theirs with no options, so I have to have them install the wing and short shifter.

Put my deposit down on Wednesday. I was told 8-10weeks on mine as well...I paid invoice for it though. Seems like a long time to wait, but I want mine with no options since I plan on modding it out immediately. Unfortunately, not many can be found without 2-3k in BS I dont want or I could have it sooner.

good luck....hopefully it don't fall off the boat like my buddy's and get eaten by a great white shark....WRX02CRH....you should post the pick of your car getting eaten by the shark.

I ordered mine in April of 2001 and they said it would be 2-3 weeks. Ended up being 8. I called the dealer around the 3 week period to see what was going on and they said they would track it for me. He called back and said SOA couldn't give him status on the order. A few days later the dealer and I received a fax from SOA saying my car was "Permanently lost at sea" and that another one was on its way.

Lot of people said BS, but a good friend of mine (and WRXDD03) used to run an Acura dealer and said sometimes cars were lost at sea...pretty funny. Who knows if it happened or not. Funny regardless.

Anyway, I used to have a photoshop of a great white breaching...eating my car, can't find the photo though. I could always make another.

Default Ordered Mine 09.11.02

Sat down with the dealer and filled out my intial paper work on 09.11.02. But actually, the dealer sent in the order 08.18.02. He says up to 90 days, give or take. Either way, it will be one helluva Chirstmas gift for myself or a great way to start the new year.

I see it as a way to put more down and lower my monthly payments, but being an opptomist I couldn't see it any other way.

I went to the SOA web site and look at the inventory of the dealers near home. Shopped around for a while and then found the one I wanted, except for one accesory. I had them order the piece mid last week and it came in on Friday. I picked up the car yesterday, only 20 miles on the odometer.

This is my first post by the way, I just joined.
