Rally Stuff S.e. Mi<<SPECIAL STAGE II>> Part Cruise, Part Challenge..start/end a2..100+miles

Well based on the awesome response of its first run, I'm going to do this again. Saturday April 28th at 2:45 pm we will depart Ann Arbor township at the US23 southbound rest area. This is a dual staged event. First stage is a set route on and off road with many twists and turns, finally ending up at the circle track cafe in Munith. Its a fantastic drive. Stage 2 is more of a challenge to see who can get back to the finish first. Use of highway to get back is not permitted. This is designed to be a race of skill, not speed. Pick the wrong road, the drive back will be much longer. Any illegal, unsafe or general moronic actions will not be tolerated. It is up to the driver how to get back. Briarwood Mall, Sears parking lot is the finish line. This will exceed 100 miles. Be ready for a long drive. Anyone can come, but keep the idiots, kids and Immature folks at home. I guarantee this will be a drive to remember.

A NOTE TO CLEAN FREAKS AND TRAILER QUEENS:

Your car will most likely get dirty! Why?

This covers both paved and unpaved roads. The event is designed for the driver in mind, not for the straight line light to light drives. Lots of curvy country 2 lane roads, minimal traffic, minimal stop lights.

here is the map route to halfway meeting point.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=...69811,0.169086

Good luck to all of you.

Great idea, hopefully I'll be around that weekend.

Also, the map link doesn't work. Tried on multiple computers and a phone...

I'm confused...is this a TSD or are people just driving like lunatics?

I assumed it was a tsd or just a casual drive. Now that I re-read the post, though, I am not sure.

The post sounds like a drive loosely based on TSD structure followed by many car accidents and speeding tickets. No?

If the "race" back to the starting place is in any way going to promote illegal "racing" on public roads this is getting locked down and removed. NASIOC does not support street racing and I really hope your event isn't going to degrade itself to that level with everyone "racing" back to the starting point.

For clarification- by "racing" to the finish the goal will select the correct secondary roads, highways are not allowed on the return trip. This event in no way, shape or form wants idiots driving unsafe potentially causing dangerous situations. It is by picking the right roads that will get you back to the finish quicker. I will not tolerate idiots in this event. It's meant for fun and to meet fellow car enthusiasts. Anything else than a fun Saturday drive is not welcomed.

No offense but I think this thread should be locked, due to the fact this event or whatever it is should not have anything to do with any thing that is cruise related on these forums.

I think the fact that your "goal" is Sears or any mall or any public gathering place for that matter, is irresponsible

I urge you to cancel this asinine idea and keep in mind small children and old people frequent these places, and you have no control how other people drive.

The rest of your cruise is great.
This race or challange or whatever you are calling it, I'm sorry and no personal offense to you, its just stupid and highly iresponsible.
And on my own selfish part you gonna give cruises on this forum a bad name.
I have seen some of the other regionals have banned them being posted.

Please reconsider this, or take it else where.

Edit: ps a good example, read about the idiot drifting at the state park meet at starved rock. You can't control what people do.

I disagree. There are always a few bad apples, but don't let the few ruin it for everyone else. I'm 35 years old, have a family own a home and understand what to do and what not to do. Over the 7 years on NASIOC I have made many friends by going to cruises and meets. If you don't want to go, don't. Don't come on here and threadjack. The cruise has been updated to reflect the goals and intentions. At no point was I looking for unsafe driving conditions, nor do I condone them. As far as the return trip to the sears lot- the outer one has been vacant and used mostly as a clothing donation area for the better part of a decade. The start and finish were selected for both location and LACK of "children and elderly"

I look forward to this event, as this route was highly recommended to me by the motorcycle safety instructor of the local BMW cycle touring club, a long time customer of mine. Rain or shine this will go on, with safety as the first priority.

Thanks,
Patrick.

Furthermore, I have seen far more immature things happen at meets, rather than on any cruise I've been on. I guess I've decided to surround myself with people with a good head on their shoulders. Once again, immature people need not come. I have been a moderator on XceedSpeed since 2004, and have had many, many successful cruises. I don't stand for any childish crap, and I've banned a good share of idiots over the years. Make no mistake my intentions are very clear.

Cheers

I'm glad that you made those clarifications in the 1st post. I wasn't looking to bash your event, only wanted to ensure that it isn't/wasn't promoting people to do stupid things. Thank you.

And please don't use Xceed as an example of successful cruises and such. No offense intended to the few smart and respectable people on that forum, but I have not seen a higher accumulation of stupid in any other place. The stupid on Xceed is far beyond reasonable and makes most of the Honda and VW forums look smart. I stopped logging into that site years ago when I realized it is most of the young ricer kids on Xceed who showed up to meets, did stupid ****,and got us all kicked out of parking lots.

I realize you are asking the stupid and immature not to show up for this event, but it is almost inevitable that some young moron will show up. I only hope they don't ruin it. I like having local cruises and gatherings for the community. I simply hope stupid doesn't come. We cancelled a "Hell" drive we used to do because it went beyond word-of-mouth and someone invited a couple 18 year old kids who wound up playing rally driver on some dirt roads where people lived...and the police were called.

So be very careful with your event. While it's nice to advertise here and try to invite more of the local Subaru crowd it may be a better idea to simply leave it word-of-mouth.

Yep, I remember days long, long ago when xceed had higher quality members, needless to say recently keeping things in check can be quite difficult. There are a good group of people on there though.

I agree there seems to be a bad apple from time to time, but that is where quality checks come into place. Before any of my events hit the road, I do check over the crowd and if anyone seems to be out of line or thinking of tomfoolery, I would advise them to keep their asses in check. I have no problem pulling someone aside and making sure they have absolutely no doubt what the rules are.

Thanks!

Good thing I know nothing of cruises.
You comparing meets to cruises? lol nice try but they are to different beasts. I didnt make any personal attacks on you, Im not thread jacking, and I dont give a **** if youre a moderator for a thousand other websites, that has no merrit whatso ever in the real world.

You're taking what I said to personal as your comment is nothing but how great you are and what an awesome cruise guy you are and how awesome you can make crusies.
I could care less about you or your cruises.
the fact that you have decided to have any event that implies or some how hints this is a competition where the goal is to end up in a public place such as a parking lot of a store, (which by the way do you have sears permision to do so?) is unsafe and a very bad idea.

Maybe you did understand what I wrote and was trying to get through: YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER OTHER PEOPLE.
When you you say race ( see below for definition) you are inadvertantly changing peoples mind set, even at a subconcious level.

BTW are you going to send out your superman robots who will monitor all your participants when you guys have this race to the shopping mall?

ITs one thing if this event is sponsored by a group/company etc., sanctioned by the cops proper safety steps , etc. But youre just some dude. I could care less how old you are as well, THAT ALSO has NO MERRIT what so ever with being able to control other people's actions.

Please understand, I'm not dissing your cruise, your idea or you personally.
IM totally dissing the idea of having an event thats a competition/race that ends up in a public place. And im sorry but I find it hard to believe that you have the psychic ability to predict that there will be no old people or children or women OR ANY OTHER person at Sears that day?
IS this a LONE sears btw? so its just a giant sears building with no other buisnesses open that day? (even so ....)

WHy not have the finish line somewhere else ...how about the police station? IM sure they wont mind you guys doing this.

I commend you on your desire to be strict and what not. I hope your cruise has much succes and enjoyment.
I am not trying to rain on your parade or anything.
have the race, but just do it where theres no one around, and not in "public right of way".

By the way ANY event that has the goal of "whoever gets there first"
its a race. You cant disguise it no matter what you call it. Just sayin.
Please consider what I have said, good luck with your cruise.

IM done ranting about this, Im sure Im not alone on this.

SEROIUSLY?

Dude this is a open forum, and apparently you take serious offence to anything that is not going with your grain. Like I said earlier, you don't have to go if you don't want to. I appreciate the free advice and numerous apparent attempts at robot humor. Good thing I can take these comments and just pass them off as childish online jibberish. Rest assured, my mind control will be in full effect and I will also be using the force during my completely legal trip around southeastern Michigan.

Now, can we get back on topic? Thanks for stopping by.

Thank you for your mature comments, I will be sure to take notes.
I guesse this just translates to "hey f-u,
I can have my little race if i want".
I merely voiced valid concernes, over an irresponsible idea you proposed(you, having and advertising for a race event which you so cleverly named "stage 2".
Yes this is an open forum but clearly you are advertising for street racing and that is totaly against the forum rules.
Yes its a race, and unless you are renting a track I assume you will be using the public roads? Oh that's right the finish line is SEARS PARKING LOT.

but hey guesse I'm just wasting my breathe because obviously you only care about defending yourself, and acting like an ass.

I think you just take it too serious. He hope it's a simple cruise meeting and people should know what they do.

If, during the "race" back to Sears, someone overspeeds and some accident happens, that guy can blame nobody. If one think he can get rid of responsibility for that by saying it's someone's bad idea of cruise, we all know he's too naive. It's personal responsibility for violating the law or causing something bad. I clearly understand the purpose of choosing a different route and get back under legally limited speed. I may need to use GPS though LOL~

Come on, the truth is, people who overspeed always overspeed. I agree your point that the OP can not control others, but nobody can. He's looking for people who can control themselves to join. If you think you may overspeed and get too excited, don't come. I think he has made this point clear. And, I don't think setting the end point at Sears would be a problem. If so, it'd be problem that meeting your friends at Sears parking lot since there is no admission from Sears. There is no prize or even praise if you won the first place. Nobody would put others' lives in danger for that, only if you're crazy (read: immature).

Ok, now let me clarify because apparently you're new to this world of forums

1. I didn't say "hey f-u"
2. This is not a race, and any illegal activities are not welcomed. Take the time to read, as you can see in the header post those things are not wanted, nor will they be tolerated.
3. I don't understand what your obsession is with this thread, you're obviously not joining in.
4. Now you're at the point of threadjacking. Get over it, the "cruise and challenge" will take place. It will be a fun, safe and enjoyable day.

Now lets all be big kids here and stay on topic. Thanks again.

Thank you. Don't think it's a "race" because it has a start and end point, or because there is a challenge. Races don't need to involve speed, sometimes picking a better road over another saves you 30 minutes of driving. I am one to take my time and enjoy my drives and take in the scenery. I am in no rush, and am doing this only to show people the wonderful routes available to them, and hopefully to meet new people with the same interests.

Cheers again!

Guys, please quit with the bickering. So long as this meet/cruise goes off without a hitch I don't see an issue. As anyone should be, we are concerned that someone might take the "race to the finish" idea too seriously and break rules and endanger lives. If that's the case then we might pull an NWIC and ban any sort of cruise organization from the MWSOC. I don't want that to happen.

So long as people are safe I'm blissfully ignorant of people breaking a traffic law here and there in some twisty back roads. I've done several Hell-drives over the years and we all know to be safe. So long as the OP is getting the same type of smart, respectful people I'm used to seeing at these drives I don't expect he'll have any issues.

Ok, solution.

I'll be there. I'll be driving. I'll even volunteer to bring up the back of the pack (because I know most of these roads) to make sure no one gets lost.

I also have a Contour Roam camera that'll be mounted on the dash.

IF ANY ASSHATTERY COMMENCES, I'll leave it up to Patrick if it's in the best interest to send that video to any authority figures.

Drive reasonably, no problems. Speed a little? no problem. Do 115 through school zones while cutting off a semi, tossing a beer out the window and snorting some coke off of your naked man-lover's thigh, we may have a problem. Again, we're not gonna get people in trouble for just having some fun. This is ONLY to be used at the ORGANIZERS discretion to PREVENT any of the "OMG RACECAR" crowd from causing an excessively dangerous event.

Again, this is just a leisurely Saturday drive, with a set route out, and a pick-your-own-way back.

First one back gets to sit in the parking lot and wait for the rest of us (who decided to take the fun roads back, and not cheat on the highway).

Can't we all just get along? I mean, really. This has been posted on what, 3 or 4 forums now and NASIOC has to turn it into a flame-fest. Big surprise.

I'm excited.

LOL bring the camera, just in case. Since I'm a volunteer in emergency management for Washtenaw County already, I guess I will just radio it in
