Oh dam, **** hit hard!!!! Crazy how tree's can handle everything you throw at it when u expect it to go down. And when there is a little breeze and some rain, perfect mixture, tree decides to fall down exactly where u parked ur wrx. Shame man... SOrry for you lost. Hope you had good memories with the car. Hope all works out and you can get a new whip! Everything happens for a reason, remember that!

Just a little heads up, an insurance settlement is a negotiation. You do not have to just take what ever they offer you for the car. IMO Subarus sell for more than KBB around here which means that you should be able to get more than KBB for your car.

If they come in at a number that is lower than what you could realistically replace the car for tell them it is un acceptable and show them comparable cars for sale.

My mom had a 91 Geo Storm totaled out that had 25K original miles on it. First offer was $1,500......managed to get them up to $5,400 after a couple weeks and I told her she should probably accept that LOL

I am an insurance adjuster BTW lol Residential property though, not auto

They may also ask you questions pertaining to the health of the tree, known bug infestations etc. The answer to all of these questions is obviously is "it has always been in good health as far as I know" lol

Good to know about the negotiation aspect of it. I haven't been what some would call a responsible adult until about the last 5 years or so, so this will be the first time I've ever dealt with Insurance and Claims.

As for the tree, there are woodpecker holes all over but otherwise it was slightly rotted. But where it sheared off its obviously still a healthly tree, and I haven't touched or moved anything so that he can see.

Any type of frame and roof damage is a total loss I believe, as they are the basis of the car's integrity and strength.

Chances are they wont even ask with auto insurance, I have to deal with it when a neighbors tree falls on some one elses house.

Well I spent a good chunk of the day actually bringing out my chainsaw to clean this up (as opposed to...you know...causing the damage ). All cleaned up so to speak. Just waiting on the Insurance company to call me with the final tally. Not a single person that has seen the photos as said anything short of totaled. There's even extra stuff now that the tree is gone, like a branch that pierced a good chunk of the upholstery and something blown out down below in the driver/back wheel area. Control arm, suspension, something. That camber is wayyyyyyy off. Not sure if you guys are still curious but I figured a couple of you were. I'll keep you informed.

Default So I came home to this, part 2...

This was part 1:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2464595

Insurance ended up totaling it. Didn't even have to fight them on the market value...I came up with my own that I was going to counter with, and they beat my own counter by $400. To avoid a month of hassles with hundreds of people messaging, calling, haggling, etc., I opted to sell the car in its entirety to someone on these boards that would put the engine and transmission to good use. Its gone so don't ask .

Went car shopping yesterday. Found a few I liked but the prices were stupid. And it was starting to come down to, "Do I want to pay for someone else's mods on an 07, or pay 3k more for a stock 08-10?"

Drove this beast at Northwest Motorsports in Puyallup.

Was the most violent acceleration I've ever experienced. Easily 400hp. But the problem I soon found was, in a car with only 50k miles, there was too many whizzes, bangs, clanks, whirs, wees, etc. It just didn't feel tight and clean. And even though I didn't mod my own WRX, I know enough to know that the front mounted intercooler, Cold Air Intake, juiced up injector lines, and tons more stuff; meant that this car was so heavily modded, I wasn't comfortable buying someone else's project they decided to dump for whatever reason. Add the fact I tripped the CEL dropping the hammer, and red flags were burning a hole in my skull.

So I talked it over with my wife. She knows I wanted an 08-10 STI. She knows it'll be my baby for 4-6 years. And she knows she's getting her own brand new Forester this fall. So for a few more down, and a few more a month, and a few grand extra, I got piece of mind knowing this baby is stock, clean, strong, and ****ing beautiful inside and out.

2010 STI. And now it's MINE!

...

Now if only I could get 2 strong sunny days so I could paint the wheels gold, we'd be...well....golden.

Glad everything worked out with your insurance co. You hear all the horror stories, but you never hear that things went smoothly (which is 90% of the time anyway)
