Hey guys so i finally got to a stopping point of my swap that to many people said it was impossible. So i took the challenge with and with the motivation for a few friends and a little over the phone conversation from a very helpful company i did the swap.
I have a full 32 bit jdm v9 in my 2005 fxt. full swap as in 5x114 hubs, sti struts on jdm pink springs, full rear r180 cradle and aluminum lateral links jdm v9 6 speed vf37 ts turbo ect Will i started this swap because i had the motor sitting in the back yard as we where trying to sell it and i wanted something only a handfull of people have ever attempted in a 32 bit car. so i jumped at the challenge and went for the big jdm awesomeness! pictures of how she looks. and for anyone looking to do this swap it takes a lot of patience and willing to do things no one should. ![]() out with the old ![]() ![]() jdm awesomeness with new belts and pulleys ![]() ![]() ![]() moded mani with the mani done this way i can now run it properly mounted a full 180 degrees rotated. WITH OUT IT LEAKING!! ![]() on the above setup i drove around with factory sti mani and tgv deletes and parallel fuel rails for 2000 miles before i got the mani installed today.

The 32bit ECU has no issues running this motor when properly setup for all those who will say it can't. I know because I tuned it and have driven it. Hauls Ballz!
Great looking Grandma mobile Alex! Pry safe to assume it is the only one in the country! |

Jaxx- THere is no exhaust AVCS on the v9, just intake and yes its working
666stars - it is running the forester ECU, like I said above Here is an initial test log to make sure things were safe, Please note: IAM is 1 as on a 32 bit ECU RPM hits 8200, not something you want to do on the 2.5L very often AVCS is at 40° peak, the 2.5L cam gears physically will not do more than 30° and dear lord look at all that delicious timing on the top end! ![]() |

as luke said above. this v9 engine is running on a usdm 05 fxt 32 bit ecu! im running the full jdm engine minus a few little changes made to get the engine to run on the 32 bit ecu. but it runs amazing and made a 1000 mile trip to mexico and back last weekend flawlessly.

Currently at 4500 miles already and have switched back and forth from 91 oct to e85. Got about 24 mpg on the freeway cruising at 85 at 4000 rpm ( jdm trans FTMFW!) always in boost.

Actually since the title is "running 32 bit jdm V9" and not "usdm 32 bit ecu running jdm V9 engine". |

For a car that is not supposed to run due to an impossible swap it really does drive well.

So, I am not totally up to speed on all the version 7/8/9 differences, can you explain why is this such an accomplishment to get the JDM V9 engine running on a 32 bit USDM ecu? Did you take the JDM rom images and put them on the forester ECU?
What was the purpose of rotating the DBW TB? congrats on the swap, looks good. Ben |

interesting.. i heard that it's not impossible.. just people don't do it. i have a setup that if i may go back to the states.. i'll strip down my gc8 with a V8 STI Spec C motor and either set it up in a 2005 STI or a 2005 WRX.
thanks for posting this. |

It's an accomplishment cause no one does it cause you have to machine parts of heads to accept
32 bit cam sensors. This were things get different. The v9 engine is run on a 16 bit ecu or dumber ecu in some sense, so I had to get my ecu to work with the dumber setup. So I converted to Usdm cams and Usdm cam sensors. This allows me to run my factory wiring on an engine that was never setup for the 32 but ecu. And it different cause I went from a 257 to a 207 and its badass. Now for the tunning part it is an opensource tune that is amazing and was done by a hood friend ( lukeskywrx) I rotated the dbw tb because the inlet for the turbo was to close for my liking. And that mani was originally setup as a dbc mani Thanks for the comments and ill answer what ever questions you guys have. |

awesome job! have any pics of the heads where they have to be milled for sensors?
Also looking forward to Ken finishing up his swap... tell him to hurry his ass up! Last edited by fastnoypi; 07-10-2012 at 07:34 AM. |

This is why the guy in Cali that did this first with a shop did it. Other than this, when you buy an engine they already give you it's ECU. Other than this, like it's stated, the cams get less AVCS with the USDM setup. Also, this does not cover the whole USDM GDB, I don't think, because the Canbus began before '08, to my knowledge. |

We are getting full AVCS advance (40° BTDC) using the JDM camgears with the 32bit ecu since the AVCS limit on USDM cars is a physical limit not an ECU limit. Canbus started in 08 so this does cover the entire GDB series. |
