Default Dyno Tune - 2012 STi Stage 2 - COBB AccessPort

Hey All,

Well after a few weeks with the stage 1 tune I took the car back down to Surgeline for them to install and test the COBB SF Intake system. While the car was in there I decided I might as well also have them install their down pipe and go stage 2...

Event: Dyno pull
Location: Surgeline Tuning, Portland OR
Ambient Temp: about 40 outside
Elevation: about 300 feet
Weather: Cloudy

Car: 2012, STi
Tuner: Lance
Dyno Info: Mustang Dynameter
Transmission: 6spd stock
Peak HP at RPM: 301
Peak Torque at RPM: 339
Baseline hp/tq for a stock on same dyno: 263 WTQ, 256 WHP, 2.5L STi
Target Boost: 18
Target AFR:
Fuel: 92 octane
Engine/Power Modifications: COBB CF Air Box, COBB DP
Driveline Modifications:Stock
Suspension Modifications: Stock

Stage 2 numbers
339 WTQ
301 WHP

Stage 1 numbers
319 WTQ
283 WHP

Stock numbers
263 WTQ
256 WHP

COBB Surgeline has been AWESOME!! Can't thank them enough.

Next step will probably be the Invidia Q300 exhaust... not sure yet.

Pic of the dyno graph and intake box... oh ya they hooked me up with a COBB heat shield too!

Thanks for looking

I admire ur balls sir to go stage 2 before that new car smell wears off

Awesome numbers with the stock exhaust on too and only 18psi, get the catback and maybe a EBCS go to 20psi... but dont let the mod bug get you this early

The dual restrictor pill setup on the factory BCS on the 08+ STI and 09+ WRX works really fantastic. A 3-port with the stock turbo on those cars can actually degrade "boost performance" a bit. There's still lots of room to turn it up on the factory solenoid setup with this car should he decide to do so

Cheers

Lance

Doesn't matter how high the dyno reads lol. It's the comparison that matters between stock and stage 1 or 2. Any ways nice car man and nice numbers. I can't wait to go stage 2. I have my downpipe just sitting in my room haha

Agreed, I was 237WHP full stage2+ (AVO TMIC) (2011 WRX) on Akums Mustang Dyno and With HTA68 @ 20PSI I am at 320WHP.

that right there is kinda iffy. 300fhp -> 256whp on an awd car? same thing with torque, 290ftq-> 263wtq? questionable.

anyway, the gains are nice.

wow, that **** is a heartbreaker if i've ever seen one. i was at 280/280 at stage2 cobb map on 92 at 16psi on PRE's dyno dynamics

Thanks for the comments guys.

Ya I hear that dyno reads a little high... I'm just excited about the gains from each step up from stock to stage 1 to stage 2. Sounds like Lance thinks he can get some more out of it still :-) So when the exhaust goes on I will probably feel a little more comfortable about pushing it a little more.

I have a 2012 sti 4 door, stage one accessport tune, and the dyno gain was
+30 hp and +40 tq, I thought they were really high. And yeah i plan on going stage 2 really soon i just want to put some more miles on it.

Nice! Pretty much same gains as mine. How many miles on yours? I just rolled over 2k.

How come the numbers you posted don't match the dyno graph at all?

Agreed you can read up on John's (Akuma) Dyno it is calibrated prior to every time I went in. There is a post where a guy made almost 50 WHP less than a different dyno just a few hours prior to running on Johns (Akuma) Dyno. STImikey knows all about the super low reading dyno, but to me it is the comparison of before and after under the curve that I am concerned about. I know the car is fast and tuned correctly. I think EFI also agreed with me in one post and said they would run my car on their dyno for free to do a comparison, never got around to it.

You dont have to justify this, it is a true heart breaker. I tuned a car with John on this dyno. We were expecting 400 and made 340, hahaha. 300 on this dyno is a force to be reckon'ed with for sure.

-Mikey

A Stock STI make 216 WHP and a WRX 201 WHP

This dyno doesn't appear to read low at all. The above numbers seems pretty high to me for a stock 2012 but then you are at sea level (and it's cooler outside) and i'm not sure how they have their dyno calibrated/correction. But regardless of all of that, the gains under the curve are great to see.

Glad to see someone has already stepped up with a 2012!

I think you might be looking at the "S" numbers vs. "S#"... Not sure what I have miss quoted. Thanks!

Ya it's been great!! The guys at Surgeline are the best! My bro is over in Bend too (Kris, WRB STi with wrx wing, custom scoopless hood, might have seen him around) and needs to bring his car over for a couple days of tuning... his has been a few years since it was tuned last.

Well done on the tune, they're good guys. It's awfully nice to have them so close by, and I need to get over there for a ProTune for my '11 WRX.

Kris is going to have to upgrade to the AP V2 before Tim will re-work the tune (IIRC, it's only a $150 exchange) - apparently, the current version of AccessTuner Pro doesn't play with the V1, or at least that's what I understood. Regardless, that car was seriously quick. BTW, did he ever get the front wheel bearings replaced?

No I don't think he has replace any wheel bearings... he didn't tell me he if has. Ya he said he needed a new AP V2... thats a nice exchange for $150 if that is how it work!

Did Kris buy his car from you flycaster?

I hit 860 today, yeah i put stage one on kinda early but she runs perfectly. at 3k or so im going to put a catless down pipe, cai and get it pro tuned. But my goal or finished project in my mind now (im sure it will change) is to have 400 whp +-15 whp.

O and side note Im going to school next year in syracuse

Is anyone from there? I live in miami now and just wanted to talk about the snow and salt and all that messing with the car. Miami doesnt see much of that, it would be great if someone would let me know.

Jump over to the regional forum. I'm sure there is lots of info over there about weather conditions. Ya I think I was right at 700 or so when I did stage 1, then 1600 miles at stage 2...

Can you expand on this a little?

I did not have such an experience and would like to have some insight if you don't mind.

Thanks,

The stock system works perfectly just like he said. There is no need to change it on the stock turbo setup on the later model cars.
