Default Audi S4 'hit & run' tonight while drifting (Maine)

Hell of a night out there in Blizzard Nemo...

About 17 subies were out tonight romping around in the snow, slip-sliding around town in abandoned parking lots and such. Everyone was having a blast, about half of us parked and idling or off at any given time to keep safe distance between cars, etc.

After a little while, an older silver Audi S4 with a fake euro plate "twin turbo" shows up and immediately starts trying to drift... basically just understeering into oblivion while pegged on the rev limiter. They eventually stop, hop out and start talking to everyone. They look a little on the tool / douchecanoe side, but they're nice enough guys, and they're excited about the snow, (and all of our subarus). Okay. Have fun. Be Safe. Etc. We'll try not to laugh too hard.

Not 10 minutes later, they end up losing control and hit a parked WRX, , *&$#% up his whole front end and fender. They immediately throw it into reverse and high-tail it out of there. Just a straight up hit & run! The owner of the WRX was riding in someone else's car at the time, but a friend of their's took off after the Audi, which apparently was running every red light and coming close to running themselves off the road, so the friend just backed off.

They couldn't get a plate though, and the police told us that without a plate, there isn't a whole lot they can do. I'll bet a simple search of silver S4's in the area would probably turn up only handful though. Police aside, it sounds like some of us had seen the car before and might have a few leads, so hopefully they catch the guy and make an honest man of him.

Pretty ridiculous situation overall though for them to have just showed up like that, not knowing any of us, make fools of themselves, hit one of our cars and then take off...

On the upside, a pickup truck with a plow and sander was hanging out off in the corner of the lot for a little while, and eventually joined in on the fun for a few minutes. We all honked and cheered lol.

UPDATE: sounds like they found out who it is...

I think they know where he works, which is pretty much game over.

There are a few videos, but I don't think they were around long enough / right time. The snow itself may have been covering the plate anyway. I know it was on mine.

Pretty much all of us out there were from Mainely's, so they all know. Some people posted on FB as well and some of their friends knew the car. Was bringing it here just for the story really.

^ Illinios is a dying state because of their bogus laws and inability to track with actual problems.

I'm glad I left when i had the chance. I suggest anyone else to also leave.

Right, they won't even let us meet and hang in a parking lot in the dry much less have multiple cars doing donuts.

glad you guys caught the hit/run driver

the snow drifting in parking lots look fun and all.. but it's still dangerous. First because it's in public places and there's always the chance to hit other people/cars. Also, a small error and your car will kiss the curb.

You guys have ice racing/time trials on frozen lakes there? We do here in WI and I can't think of a safer way to learn car control and advanced drifting techniques. If you spin out, you hit nothing. We only race if it's determined that the frozen ice is thick enough to support the weight of the cars (usually over 12 inches of ice).

Cheers.

Yeah I figured there might be some overlap with this thread and facebook and Mainely Subaru's, etc. It sounded like they have enough leads to find him so I didn't feel like I was jeopardizing anything by posting it here. Just thought it was ridiculous.

People have certainly lunched a curb or two at times, but many are running winter bombers anyway, and this does usually take place around midnight in a snowstorm so there's no one around and no one cares.

There were also times in the big parking lot free-for-all where I lost track of where a certain car was, and my windows were all fogged up, and I just had get my bearings again and keep safe. Less of an issue on "the track" where people usually run.

I'm sure there are few places where people take their cars out on the ice, but the big empty space must get a little boring unless it's all mapped out into a track.

I'm curious as to what your definition of "amateur rally event" is. Going out and screwing around on back roads in the middle of the night or even participating in a rally cross event does not a professional race driver make.

And you guys in Illinois wonder why these types of things always get broken up? It's because of events exactly like this. A bunch of people are out having a good time and some terd comes in and does something like this and this is why we can't have nice things. Our parking lot car meets routinely get broken up by the cops because some ricer in a twenty year old Civic has to show up uninvited and do something incredibly stupid that gets the cops called on us, e.g. a burnout, racing around the lot, etc. Meanwhile, we're just standing around bull****ting, minding our own business.

Amateur rally as in... amateur rally:

http://www.lastditchracing.net/
http://www.newenglandforestrally.com/

And what, rally-x isn't "hardcore" enough for you to stop feeling like you're better than these guys for having fun with their cars?

Did you miss the part where it was some douche in an Audi that hit a parked, empty car and took off? I mean, I see your point about it being inherently dangerous to be out doing stuff like this but this was a hit and run.

Like I said, you should expect stuff like this to happen when you go out in the middle of the night and dick around with complete strangers. Hooning around by yourself is one thing, going out and setting up an "event" and a "track" with door to door racing is another thing entirely.
