Try reading the thread next time. Thanks for coming out though.

Cliff notes: Audi owner showed up, not with us at all, hit a parked, PARKED, PAAARKED!!! car and then committed a FELONY by running.

And FYI - I have the utmost respect for police around here. I know many. I have had many pleasant experiences with police officers simply by being honest, responsible and respectful. It's how i was raised. They deal with people on the the worst day of their lives all day long. Utmost respect.

Moral cops are funny! Do you really think "amoral attitudes" are rotting our country out? Laughable. Are you aware.....aww forget it. You will fall off your moral high-horse eventually! Have a nice day Skippy!

Most of us have done these things. I'm no saint either. What the Audi owner did was wrong and illegal and no one is really disputing that. However, I have a hard time feeling too sorry for the others involved because they're not exactly innocent either. Doing such things on private party is almost always considered loitering and business owners don't want guys doing this for risk of liability to the business, customers, and the idiots engaged in such activities. If you were a business owner, do you want people doing this on your property?

Moral to this story: Engage in things you're not suppose to be doing then be prepared to pay up, Sucker.

Lots of people in here who think they know a lot about the law... who don't.

Hit and runners caught, justice served (hopefully), can't we all just get along?

Then this audi shows up, (not with us at all) and hits a parked car and takes off. And this didn't happen at "the track", it happened in a wide open parking lot somewhere else. Car parked and unoccupied. Audi driver hit it and took off.
That's just my point. You've obviously got a nice car, why would you take it to some parking lot with several people you don't know and risk bending it up? That could have easily have been you. I tend not to hang out with kids with crappy cars for exactly this reason. They tend to do stupid **** as I detailed earlier. You guys hung out with a kid in a crappy car and this is what happens.

Quote:
So stop being so judgmental and acting all "I told you so" when the reality of what happened is anything but. I wouldn't have even posted this if they just handled it responsibly. Instead, this is a felony, with a fine and possible jail time.
In most states, hit and run is only a felony if someone got hurt. Otherwise, it's a misdemeanor. The cops around here wouldn't even bother, especially if it was on private property.

Quote:
And what does the "circumstances surrounding this little incident" have to with it? His car was parked and unoccupied and some idiot slammed into it and took off.
Maybe your new to this whole car insurance thing, but insurance companies really don't like it when your car is damaged while you're out driving like an asshat, whether it's your fault or not. Street racing, drunk driving, tearing around in circles in a snowy parking lot, etc. It shows you to be a high risk because you engage in high risk activities. The insurance industry is predicated on predicting risk. They don't make money on risky people, thus you get dumped.

Quote:
Full douche status. That's a felony.
Misdemeanor.

Quote:
Everyone is throwing around criticism as if our actions caused this. The only fault of the wrx was being in that exact wrong place at the wrong time, (as in, 3 ft to the left and everything would have been fine). And there were a few abandoned vehicles in the very outskirts of the lot, so this exact scenario could have happened to one of those non fault cars, at the hands of this Audi, and no one would have known.
And the nuance you seem to be missing that is you're somewhat responsible for this for engaging in the activity to begin with. Sure, the kid hit your car, whatever. But what do you expect when you go out and drive aggressively around a parking lot somewhere with complete strangers?

Quote:
However, I have a hard time feeling too sorry for the others involved because they're not exactly innocent either.
Pretty much.

The WRX owner could have been there alone, peacefully making snow angels in the parking lot, and the same exact thing would have happened. If you disagree, you're not listening to the facts. The car was completely unoccupied. The attempted-drifter hit and run was the Audi, who showed up with the intent to do do donuts, expecting no one to be there.

The fact that any other people were there is only relevant in that they are witnesses. What they were doing is technically irrelevant to the exact incident that occurred with the audi.

It's a risk everyone assumes. And this was practically a 'meet', everyone there knew at least a handful of other people there. The Audi showed up as a complete stranger, immediately gave us a bad vibe, and then pulled a hit and run. I was posting just to point out the audacity of that, especially with so many witnesses, etc. I'm not shocked something happened, I'm not even upset that it did, I'm just shocked at how it was handled after the fact.

The car was parked and unoccupied, so again, the owner could have been there to make snow angels and this would have still happened.

Or it could be that the Audi driver was enticed by your guys little meet to go join. So had you not been partaking in your shenanigans the Audi driver might have gone to look for an actual empty lot and not caused damage.

Im sure they wouldve called their insurance companies and said "We were driving recklessly in a parking lot because some of us are amateur rally drivers and one of us accidentally hit the other"

... You have knack for responding to statements that were never made. You don't seem to understand the context of what you are quoting.

So is driving 1 mile over the speed limit, so clearly the fact that something is 'illegal' doesn't immediately warrant such an absolute dismissal. And besides, if it were private property and the owner doesn't care, it's not illegal. Otherwise, it's still something that's up to the full discretion of the officer and the owner.

IMO everyone is getting away from what OP is attempting to state. From my understanding, he is not disputing the legality of what happened. Nor is he complaining about the empty vehicle being hit. He is simply saying that it was an ***hole move to run from the accident after the Audi driver hit the car.

Everyone is saying doesn't matter that the Audi showed up uninvited when it actually does. The Audi driver had NO connection to any of the other people there. Everyone that was there had someone that knew them, who knew someone else, etc. So if one of them had messed up and hit a vehicle, do you really think they would have run? NO! Because there is at least one other person, maybe even more, that could have identified the driver and the car. The Audi driver, feeling that he could get away free because no one there knew him, took off.

IMO this thread has gone way further than need be. This thread should have ended when OP edited his very first post to say that he thinks the orginal person had been caught.

IMO this thread isn't even thread worthy, at least not in General. MAYBE in NESIC just for giggles, but not at all in general. It's threads like this that make a community look bad.
