2013 WRX burning oil smell

Practically brand new wrx with 5,500 miles has a burning oil or something burning coming from the engine area. Sometimes I notice it from the drivers seat, usually when at a stop. I can also smell it coming from under the hood when i get out. I've check the oil level since I had it changed at 3000 miles, and it seems fine. Seems like there's a bit much exhaust coming out of the pipes for a few minutes after I turn off the engine. Am I just paranoid as usual about my car, or are other people having this issue? Also have dry rotted rubber at the top of my strut mounts. Probably unrelated, but curious if other folks have any ideas.

I had this happen to my 2011 when I first got it. Its just the engine breaking in still. I wouldn't worry about it.

Did you say there is smoke coming from the exhaust after you turn the car off? Is the oil level always full when you check it?

My 2012 does the same thing, usually after I am driving it pretty hard so I think it might be normal maybe. Let's hope anyway!

Yeah, the oil level seems fine the two times I've checked it. As far as the smoke goes, I noticed it halfway through pumping a tank of gas, so that's probably at least 2 minutes after I shut the engine off. I did treat the car pretty easy during the break-in period, drive it fairly easy most of the time, and get it up to around 100 on the highway from time to time. It's so fun to drive.

Check the exhaust for under coating if you got it done.

Bring it to the Subi techs and have them look it over. Get it documented just in case.

@freddy he has 5500 miles on it so that engine break in smoke from the gaskets burning in etc etc should be long gone and done. Op how long ago did you have the oil changed as it could be a loose filter and or drain plug. And who does the oil changes?

OMG, no undercoating, but that's not a bad idea. Everyone else, I'm definitely taking it in for the dealer to look at. Unfortunately, i haven't been able to reproduce it in the last few days! Thanks fire chiming in!

i have a 2011 wrx and i have the same smell for about 20,000 miles now and its running strong and it maybe burns 1/4 of a quart of oil in 3,000 miles if im driving really hard
