Default 06 sti transmission into an early 04 wrx

Im about to swap a 06 usdm sti transmission into my early 04 wrx. I will be keeping my wrx female axles from my 04.

Which seals would I need for the swap? I have 2 new stubs (38415AA110) to put into the female 06 6 speed. From reading i think I need 806730041 & 806730042 but still a little unsure.

Also does the transmission need to be opened to convert the female 06 6 speed to a male stub 6 speed? Im a little confused on how the stubs will lock in on the 06 6 speed. I know some guys mentioned circlips for some models, can you get to them outside the transmission or inside? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

The 6MT stubs are retained in the front differential via circlips. You put the circlips on the stub and seat it into the diff until the circlips lock in place. No need to take the trans apart (like 5MTs).
As you noted, you need the axle seals that match up to the stubs. Source those for early 2004 STI applications. I do not have the p/n's handy right here but those are pretty well covered in the 6MT swap threads. You will have to pry out the existing axle seals from the side retainers and drive in the replacement seals. At least you do not have to remove the retainers....
