Default ECU "Chips"

So i keep seeing sponsored links on here that take you to sites trying to sell these chips that you plug in to you IAT sensor and supposedly " The unit is then able to fine tune the ECU thus improving your car's performance." the website is claiming the chip will improve mpg by an average of 7. and up to a 60hp gain. all this from a chip that costs 69 $. this sounds a little to good to be true. Has anyone bought one of these or have experience with them? this is the website http://www.gfchips.com/subaruimprezawrx.aspx

-thanks

Our ecu is already custom programmable. Why buy anything else other than a cable to connect your computer to the car I do not know. And this does not belong in general

That is nothing more than a 50 cent resistor. It lies to your computer and tells it that the air charge is colder than it is.

From what I've learned over the years, it's best to be highly suspect of anyone who says "chip it", or any other version of "chip" as it partains to automobile performance.

not this product again....

what it does it maxes out the fuel trim correction to make you run leaner. As we all know, running lean on turboed subies is extremely bad. aka blown motor. If you want a cheap way to tune your car get a tactrix cable for $100 and install the programs on a laptop that are listed on the stickies oin the open source engine management sub forum.

This thread needs to be closed before some one tries this.

Will this void the warranty?

There are a few specific things that completely void a car's warranty, but it is very rare.

A much more common situation is that the dealer notices something has been modified on the car and makes a connection, however remote, between that modification and the failed part. That allows them to deny coverage for that particular claim.

The key thing is whether they notice the modification, and there are entire threads written about what can and can't be found when you modify the data in the ECU.

Safest approach is to assume any and all changes will be found and any related parts are no longer going to be covered.

If you put this chip in and your engine blows up, the dealer will see it and give you a bill for about $7300.

It is garbage.

It is 3 cents in parts total. Yes, really.

If you want better mileage, buy a Civic.

Nasioc doesn't have control of those stupid ads you see. They're controlled by what your interweb footprints tell it you will fall for. If you're a supporter, you don't see those retarded ads.
