It's only ever been a limited edition here. In Europe it has been out there for 3-4 years already. It's just the top of the line Golf.

And he has hinted at a RS version that would be limited.

I am getting excited to dump Subaru for awhile and try a 3 door R or a M235i, very interested in seeing how it all shakes out.

The US R will only be a 5 door.

Wowie. The R in the German video sounds extremely aggressive inside the cabin. I'm loving it. My 2008 is about to hit 75k miles. I think I may be in the market for something new and exhilarating

The M235i is ridiculous fun. You should close to 390/400ft lbs @ 1,400rpm with a simple tune and DPs. Good times.

However, they're VERY proud of these new ones.
When I configured a new one to match what I had on my '10 135i, it was at $48K+!
I paid $40K for my '10 that had an MSRP of $44K+. Slightly under invoice. I won't do that for an N55 engine. I'd only go there again if the M2 comes out. My guess is the new M2 will be $60K instead of $50K this go-round. Big bucks.

I think the smart guy buys the R vs the S3. You get the hatch body style, which is awesome And you only have to pay slightly crazy German inflated prices, not bat **** stupid crazy prices.

Right. If the S3 had a non-Haldex system, I would consider it, but I am guessing both have the latest Haldex.

SCRAPPY, your car requires premium gas, right?

Yup, 91 or higher.

At least I think it does..... I will check at lunch.

It is not really that big a deal though. 14 x $3.39 vs 14 x $3.09

So it is usually only around 4 bucks difference. I have not put regular gas in anything I own for 23 years.

Oh, and the haldex is FAR from a bad system. You feel as if you are driving an AWD car, not a FWD car. Do not let it scare you off. And Haldex V is suppose to have some kind of vectoring capability... we will see.

On my test drive I really didn't notice a thing wrong with it. The R actually felt more capable than a WRX. The verdict will be out on the new WRX though.

THe All season tires really hurt the VW on the all important magazine numbers.

Having driven both the 2011 WRX and the Golf R, the R's suspension is FAR better developed than the WRX. The damping is spot on. The all season tires just give up long before the suspension does.

Very true!

The guys that threw on Pilot Super Sports were saying it transformed into a different car....maybe a Camaro but that is only what I heard haha

Tires go a long way for many cars.

PSSs transformed my 135i. Great tires that now come stock on the M235i - go figure.

Is there something mechanically different with DSG cars that can rev-match vs ones that don't?
Is it just computer programming in throttle-by-wire vehicles?

Not sure Pre, I have to look it up.

I think the pistons are forged, the rods are stronger, the wrist pins are larger, the block was strengthened (EA113 block vs the EA888).

But I am sure it will turn up somewhere on a google search if I look hard enough.

I'm not sure about that, I haven't done much extensive research on DSG since I don't favor it over a manual. I wouldn't mind driving a car with one but I'm not sure I'm ready to own one.

I'm kind of mixed right now with this showing of the R, and that's because I haven't seen enough of it to make a determination. I know that we won't be getting our model until end of year so that gives me time to: scroll through videos from ROW and see owner impressions on Vortex. The same I will do for anything new from Subaru....I want to see how it performs and how reliable the cars are before I buy buy. Thus I will most likely be trading in the Impreza for a more efficient daily driving appliance until a later time.

I keep telling myself that i'll own my current mkvi gti for 5 years. I've owned it 1.5 years and put on 33xxx miles. Absolutely loving it. However, this new R sure looks tempting. If I could get a fully loaded R 4 door for $34k I might be tempted.

I'd possibly entertain the idea of dsg also. I'll have to schedule a test drive whenever these come to the states.

Keep it for another year or so to see how the R plays out, then upgrade....

Btw:
