My bro has a '12 Golf R and he loves it! He's currently APR Stage 2+ and it has been reliable and so far the stock clutch hasn't gone out either! LMAO.

Oh, and it has surprised a lot of other cars on the road if you know what I mean!

I'm curious as to see what the MK7 Golf R can do!

Sure thing. I still think the Golf R is a worthy car at this time.

Looks like the mule of the next Golf R has made its way over to China, for some unknown type of testing:

http://www.carnewschina.com/2013/05/...ives-in-china/

On another note, I've been going back over all the magazine reviews of the current R and judging by the more aggressive styling of the mule; VW is actually responding directly to all the comments that the R while refined doesn't: look like a racer or drive like a racer.

Another Nurburgring session:

Around 20sec looks like they have two mules testing at the same time.

I do want to add that the mk7 will be produced in Mexico unlike the 6. The VW community is going bonkers about it.

Mk7 Golf and GTI only, the R will still be made in Germany....but I wouldn't care if it was made in Mexico.

I hope it comes with both.

Dex, just checking, but you do know that this one has a manual transmission standard right. There is no DSG option on my model.

I love the way it looks, the design, the AWD, and the power that they say it will have, but I'm always concerned whether it will be be a lemon or not. When I had my 2002 GTI, it was in the shop 9 times in the first 8 months and VW treated me like crap every time I brought it in. Like I had stole the car and was bringing it in for warranty work.

I love their designed, just concerned that they don't stand behind the product once you own it.

Precisely why I'll never own a Vdub ever again. Been there done that. My Bimmer never had a single issue in 3 1/2 years. Every Vdub I had back in the day, including my family's umpteen vdubs, had pretty epic (laughable now) problems. Just ridiculous. My buddy just bought a GLI and I'm kinda waiting for something to go out on it.

Ditto with my 2011 TDI. Loved the interior, style, and fuel efficiency, but the squeaks and rattles started within 5,000 miles, the seals around the driver's window and sunroof leaked and needed replacing before 10,000, and the engine began doing weird hesitation things during cruise control, and was never solved, by 25,000. With the warranty expiring at 36k, I traded it in for 2012 Mazda. 27k miles, no problems, no squeaks, no rattles.

Well I hear ya guys, and certainly believe you. But so far, my R has been flawless. 7 months of completely trouble free ownership. Not one single rattle, whistle, hesitation, hiccup, squeak, knock, ping, leak, fire, or explosion.
