Default hks ca/ti catback

good exh. just one problem that is very annoying(especially after hard cornering and with a/c on). i get a rattle from the muffler hanger hitting the swaybar. thought those kartboys would fix it but it just made the rattling faster. anyone had the same problem?

I don't think any of my hangers even come close to hitting the sway bar...I did have a problem with the rear flange banging into the diff protector, but I fixed that. Just be sure to keep an eye on the flex joint on that exhaust - mine blew itself out within 6 months of use, and HKS refuses to provide product support unless you are an authorized dealer through them.

hummm... my flex joint seem to be neutrally aligned, plus, putting in the downpipe had only moved the flex joint about half an inch. i don't know... i'm hoping it'd fix the problem when i get aftermarket swaybars and hangers would solve this problem.

yes i hear this happening with many exhaust manufacturers...

its probably the 2nd hangar location on the axel back section hitting. Its not the sway bar, i forget what it was though. Most companies dont know how to properly mount the hangar to prevent that.

all i know is that HKS's quality has gone to hell with these products for the WRX. Being some of the first, if not the first, to have these products out for the WRX... its not a big surprise that there are some problems. However, if you write a proper letter to them, anything can happen. But before doing that, I suggest that you just call them and say, "my exhaust is rattling"

Its funny... I go out and make my own exhaust with minimal welding experience and its perfect... no contact with anything, etc. however, big name companies keep screwing it up.

well i make my exhaust by going to a friends muffler shop and using their stuff. you can go to any muffler shop, you just need some know how.

i recommend getting subaru spec hangars (they are HUGE!!) by special order or something from the muffler shop. Most stock aluminized piping, but you can special order stainless steel parts if you want.

I just copied the factory hangar positions... however i believe that by placing the inner hangar (on the axel back) on the opposite side and pointing towards the left would further reduce chances of hitting. However, mine probably only hits when i go over a big bump or something. takes a lil work, but its worth the time.

OR just hack your stock muffler off and put your choice of muffler on. <--- Easiest method.

My biggest peice of advice is to use different bolts. With the flex joint, you don't need the spring bolts b/c they were for flexibility. I had serious rattles and took it to a muffler shop. They gave me some new bolts and tightened it down for me. ALL BETTER!!!

Does the regular stainless steel model HKS Hiper have the same rattle issues? Just curious since I'm in the market for one...

ive got the regular hiper, and its rattled once when parked on a steep hill... and i also get the nice thump, too. usually at cruise speed, spool up a little bit -let of the throttle quick and "THUMP!" heh.. we'll see if new hangers fix that..

I've got the ca/ti HKS with Vishnu hangers and I've had no rattling issues so far. Nice exhaust, just a little on the big side. Not at all what I would call subtle in appearence. Sounds wonderful.

I've installed two catback exhausts on two separate cars. One was rattling from the hanger and the other had a small leak in the piping. Both times I ended up buying universals and having them intalled in a muffler shop and they turned out great. If you don't want any rattling or clearance issues I suggest that you just take it to a shop and get a custom job. I'm going to take that route when I get mine. No more catbacks for me!

I've been looking for sound clips of exhausts, especially the HKS Hiper cat backs but am not having any luck. Anyone got a sound clip of this exhaust?

Thumbs down

I had hi-power for my 2003 wrx. I had all the problem from whoever posted above, and even worse.

I just had a big hole on the first section of the cat back.

It happenned when I was sitting on traffic, I didn't hit anything, but the welding point of the first hanger fell off from the pipe.

Now I had a big hole on the pipe, and need to order another cat back. I would never get HKS product for my wrx, they are suck. They don't know how to weld.

I just ordered A'pexi GT spec, it should be here next week. I will take some photo from that crab (HKS HI-POWER), and post them.

Yeah, actually. My exhaust, or at least i think it is my exhaust, is rattling like hell or something. When i let off the gas, the regular sound of the exhaust starts, then a loud resonance that fades in and out as the RPMs get lower. I think i might have a leak somewhere, or my muffler is dead, ive got the Stromung Dual Tip, custom 2.5" midpipe from a local exhaust shop that really knows what they are doing, and the Borla Header, which i suspect might be the prob, ive heard of them cracking and that the build quality is not good. Also, when I first take off from a stop sign or any stop, there are some serious rattles from the back left of the car. At first i thought it was my strut assembly as i had just put some Ground-Controls on some KYB GR-2s but i checked everything and it was all still bolted up tight with the springs held perfectly in place. Any ideas? i think the rattle only happens right after i first start moving, but then again my exhaust is loud so i might not be able to hear it anymore.

I've had my on my car for almost 6 months now. It has been fine since the day I installed it. Have you guys try re-positioning the hanger that wraps around the muffeler it self? Maybe that could be a factor. Also did you guys make sure that you didn't put it on facing the wrong direction?
