Hello-
With help from Forum members phenryiv1 and SVXdc I have just wrapped up installing a Clarion CX501 into my 2013 Impreza Premium 5-door. SVXdc's steering wheel control unit works like magic and I'm thrilled with the installation...once I read the Clarion manual and stopped the HU from changing colors on me..Maybe the CX stands for "Chameleon Extreme"? I have Infinity 6032 speakers and phenryvi1's spacers staged to go as soon as the weather breaks here in Maryland (no garage ). I fitted my previous Suby (2006 Forester X) with a Kenwood KSC-SW1 under-seat subwoofer and it worked well. Alas, it's too big to fit under the seat of the new Impreza. I'm ready to purchase an equivalent unit and wonder if anyone has any first person experience with fitting one to the 2012/2013 Impreza. Online research suggests the the following models should fit: Sound Ordinance B-8PD Pyle PLBASS8 Kicker 11HS8 Kenwood KSC SW10 Boss Bass 800. Has anyone here put one of these or a similar model under the seat of a 2012/2013 Impreza hatchback non-turbo? Thanks, Sig

got it in my sti, I love it. Can't give any input on the others but I can say I'm very happy with the sound ordinance for the price. Don't expect it to bump crazy loud, but it goes enough to rattle my rearview mirror |

Thanks, Tom!
I'm really looking for members who have installed an underseat sub in a 2012 or 2013 Impreza. I'm concerned with the fit. I measure the "cavity" under the seat as 9.5 x 16.25 inches. Sig |

Sig, I installed the Boss Bass600 in my XV and it's not exactly a clean fit. Obviously your going to pretty much lose the heater vents under the passenger seat. I didn't look at the drivers seat but I assume there are heater vents under there as well if you chose that location. In order to get the sub to sit flush I had to trim down the heater ducts with a utility knife. I hated doing it but they'd be blocked and useless anyway. When I say trim, I mean somewhere in the 1/4" to 1" range and the one closest to the door sticks out further. I think the sound ordinance fits better as its slightly narrower and GreyFixer did an excellent write up here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ht=sub+install It is about $100 more expensive than the Boss unit. Maybe that won't be an issue for you...

Money is always an object...that's why we drive Subarus, not Audis.

Just buy a Bazoka sub box for your trunk in case you don't want it in just unplug it. Make sure its a pre-wired so its easier.

Thanks for your input. I had a removable cabinet in a previous car and it didn't work out for me. Always in when I wanted it out and vice-versa. And I guess I should have stated that my Impreza is a hatchback and therefore doesn't have a trunk.

Get an audio integrations box. Very clean, very OEMish. And exponentially better bass than a dinky under the seat 8 incher.
AI is even running a group buy right now to save ya some $$$ http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2450558 -edit. wait a tick.. is the 5 door impreza i different than the wrx/sti? I forget, don't have enough cares to look it up. lol sigh |

Good to see that there are other solutions out there.
Unfortunately, the one you propose is way out of line from a cost standpoint: even at the discounted price, adding an appropriate amp and driver would effectively triple the cost of the system...not to mention taking up valuable (to me) luggage space. Upon review of their website, I can't tell if the "group buy" price includes an amp and driver or not. Either way, too much $$$ for po' old me. Also, I would like any responders to please note that, in the OP, I stated that I had been happy with the Kenwood SW1 series under-seat unit...I would have happily recycled it if it would have fit in my new car. I am a 64-year-old jazz, country and soft-rock fan. If you can hear it outside of my car, it will probably hurt my ears. Last edited by Sigmoid; 01-18-2013 at 11:42 PM. Reason: Update |

Thanks to all contributors to this post.
I finally installed the Audio Ordinance B-8PT under the driver's seat. Fits like it was designed to go there, although a minor trimming of the (plastic) heater duct was required...half a minute with a utility knife. Sounds great...never even approach max power on the wired remote, which is stuck to the side of the center console just under the hand brake button using the provided double-stick tape. It took quite a few sessions adjusting the sub's controls and coordinating with the settings on my Clarion CX-501 HU. ![]() One reason for landing on this particular sub is that "Audio Ordinance" is a project of some Crutchfield employees so I'm confident of good customer service going forward. |

I'm so torn, I need to hear one of these things in person. I've always had bumping stereos in my cars, at least a couple 8's with hundreds of watts. But the appeal of an under seat sub is strong with this car, I would love to keep all of my trunk space and fold down seats (sedan). The thing is, I have an awesome (huge) amp sitting in my garage, an old school memphis belle 50x4 and 1000x1 RMS. I love this amp, and have had it in a few installs. I also have a pair of Infinity 8's, but probably won't use those. I see my choices as:
1. Fiberglass a 12" into one side of the trunk and build an amp rack on th other side. This will give me all the bass I could want and I would get to use my amp. Having to bulid the box and amp would take time and $$$, but I've done it before. Trunk size impact would be minimal, I would still have access tot he spare and fold down seats. 2. Toss a couple of these under seat subs in, one under each seat. Easy peasy, no boxes to build or anything. It would be way cheaper than the other option, about 300 for both subs. I just don't know if they will have the oomph I want. I moslty listen to podcasts during my commute, but when I crank it I listen to rap or modern alternative. I'm not expecting earth shattering bass. Guess I will have to find someone with one to demo. |

I'm also very happy with the SO B-8PT. Didn't want to take up any trunk space and it fits great under the passenger seat. It'll only go down to 40Hz so it's more of a mid-woofer than a sub but still a great improvement. All depends on what you listen to and how you want it to sound.

Thanks, 40hz wont cut it. It doesn't have to be loud, but it needs to be low

Lots of manufacturers do. I went out and eyeballed it... there really isn't much space under there, and I'm used to cramming equipment into nooks and crannies.
