Default Speaker question

I know my 2009 impreza 2.5i holds 6 1/2" speakers front and rear, but are shallow-mount speakers needed or recommended when replacing for an upgrade?

Search up some install posts from your model run.. the fitment doesn't change with every model and year so find something close and you should be good... Should be plenty to choose from too...

All situations are different, but very similar too.. much depends on depth, but we are used to running spacers to increase depth so there's a whole list of "depends"

If you can get away without using shallow type speaker, do...

Long story short:

Crutchfield will only say that something fits if they sell/carry the appropriate adapter. Unfortunately, they only have 1 adapter type, and it sucks.

They also state that MANY perfectly-acceptable speakers will not fit in many cars where they fit just fine- as long as you get the correct adapter.

Don't let what Crutchfield says will fit limit what options you consider. Even my Polk dB651 coaxials are a "don't fit" application, according to CF. The dB651s model fits (according to them), but not the non-slim version. When I ordered them during a crazy sale last year, I had to call and have them force-order them for another vehicle since the online ordering would not let me put my car and the dB651 model together (meaning I would not receive the free wiring harness).

That said, I have had the regular version in the back of my '11 WRX for over a year.

Are they a direct replacement or do I need an installation kit?
