Default Bought a VLSD R160 for my 2.5i open diff. Dropped the VLSD on the ground :|

So. I bought a VLSD equipped R160 from an 05 WRX to swap into my 07 2.5i, and for the first time ever I managed to drop the differential itself with ring gear attached from 4ft up onto concrete.

In 17 years of working on cars, this is my first drop. Go me. Fortunately it was with a cheaper diff. It landed on the ring gear which needs to be swapped anyways.

Should I have this thing spun with no bearings on it to see if it's eccentric/tweaked and run it?

Paid 75$ for the diff, would like to use it but hate sinking more cash into this.... bleh.

well ****.....that does suck.....****can the ring and bolt up the vsld and try it

i saw a guy drop an assembled head---an aluminum 427 chebby head...on a concrete floor....that head cost a staggering amount of $,$$$ ......he just stood there looking at it with 'that look' on his face

i reached over and took the bottle of JD off the shelf, took a pull, and handed it to him.....he took a long pull off the bottle and picked up the phone and called to order another head

we laughed about it.....later...quite a while later
he was my buddy and that one didnt get talked about to anybody else....if ya know what I mean

Yeah, I literally blinked. Eyes opened wide and was like I just dropped.... a ****ing diff.... it was a cheap one... but that was a 75$ drop....

Ouch...... yeah. I can only imagine. I'm always super super careful that is why this kills me so much.

Plus side, my Koni yellows shipped. 670$ shipped, I have not seen bilstein/koni that cheap in a long time. Stupid declining dollar. I wish they were 500$ like they were a few years ago. I remember paying 130$ a shock, and 115$ for bilstein sports for random vehicles.

You reminded me why I have a bottle of 100 proof on my bench, thanks. I'm going to swig that later.
