Default Potential buy: 2002 WRX, 3" exhaust, no tuning.... Should I?

Found a 2002 WRX with 85k miles... Seller says the only mods are a 3" exhaust and a manual boost controller (that has been set to stock levels... Ha!) but no engine tune upgrade... Asking ~$9k but flexible...

Walk or get a price drop?

I like flexable ask the seller to put his legs behind his head and prove his flexibility to you. If he can't/won't, then he's a liar and I would not buy a car from the gypsy.

Did you test drive it? Does he have compression numbers? If it seems fine haggle the price and be on your way.

It might have "stock boost levels" now, but really who would put that on there to leave it at the stock level??? And running higher boost without a tune sounds pretty sketchy to me! Given these cars run very rich in stock form with conservative timing, its likely OK but I still would give it a thorough check and def check compression. See if he also has any oil maintenance records being its a 2.0l!!! If not, at least pull the dipstick to see what it looks like, dont mention it until you get there so you can check on the spot. Will give you a good idea what he's been doing with it.

How is this not closed yet. Here, read this http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1679821

we can't tell you if the car seems like a good deal or not based on the 2 sentences you gave. There are so many variables to if its a good deal, the right car to choose, etc. Get a professional pre-purchase inspection, don't ask randoms on the internet.

While KBB is a good starting point, a car is worth what the market dictates and what someone is willing to pay for it.

I completely agree... I dont see too many 2002 WRXs selling for under $6k. Hell, you can part out a decent chassis for around $4k if your willing to do the work. Its tough finding one that is clean enough to justify the price they are going for.

Yeah I'm not saying I would get that or anything, but $5,500 or 6 seems low to me.

Guy is my age (late 20s) and he did all the mods to it at agile auto. They know the car and commented on how clean it was.

He bought it with 50k from a local subaru dealership and it was stock but he says it looks like the exhaust was probably replaced at some point.

Having the compression test performed at IAG since its closer to me and i've known them longer. Looking forward to getting it up on a lift.
