Default LSX RWD S476r E85 Bugeye Build

Figured I would start build thread in here, should help me document the build process and also open up a line of communication for suggestions/opinions.

Here is a little run down of the car and its history. Its a 2002 Subaru WRX with 80k miles. It previously made 629 awhp with a HTA86/E85 and also broke quite a few expensive parts along the way (2 motors, 1 transmission + other stuff). I parted the powertrain and drivetrain out and made quite a bit of money to fund the LSX swap project. I sold the drivetrain (trans/trans controller/rear diff/driveshaft) as a package for almost $5,000 alone. I had fabricated my own turbo kit for the wrx, so I made quite a bit selling that too. All the parts sold extremely fast except for my FIC 2000cc injectors, which I am still trying to sell. Strange because they only have around 3k miles on them and FIC replaced all the orings/seals with brand new ones when I had them flow tested and lubricated for storage, oh well. As the car sits right now it has no motor, transmission or rear diff. Basically it is stripped down and waiting for the LSX stuff.

Here are a few photos of the car, don't mind my friend in the background.

This next part is where stuff starts to get wild... I had Nigel, from Fast Nigel Fabrication (V8wrx.com AKA TyConway on here), build me a LSX swap/turbo kit to meet/exceed all of my goals/plans for the car. Nigel is an amazing fabricator and an all around great guy. His work turned out above and beyond what I had expected.

Here are a few photos of the FNF LSX cradles/subframes and turbo kit.
Front Engine Cradle

Rear Diff Cradle

Oil Pan

Turbo Kit

That is pretty much where I am at with the build as of now. I need to get the cradles powdercoated black asap. I have a stock48 JFR cam and springs ready to go. I picked up a "running" LQ4 6.0, but it ended up being trashed, piston broke right off the wristpin and the timing chain was also broke. It ended up hammering that pistion right into the head. The eBay scammer said,"Yeah, I checked the compression it looks great, it was out of a running 2005 truck, should be perfect for your build"... how do these scammers sleep at night? So I am still on the hunt for a solid sbe motor, might just go the LM7 5.3 route because they seem to be available everywhere.

I still need to pick up the Holley Dominator ecu, FI billet S476r turbo, fuel cell/lines, transmission, tires and all the little miscellaneous stuff but the project is well underway.

Bad ass!! What are your plans?

No updates at the moment. I am focusing on rebuilding another vehicle right now. Also trying to move into a new home. Free time to work on the car has been very limited. Some progress will be made very soon.

I envy your parts you bought from him haha.

I'm gonna go towards the diy way.

Just depends how my tax return looks haha.

i would like to be turbo'd, but might just stick to bolt on/cam/springs, push rods, ls7 lifters.

I will run e85 no matter what tho.

So you're going the 480le route?

I know for a fact a 4l60e will not fit. You would have to cut the trans tunnel and the structure out where the oem transmission mount attaches.

Hey it always feels good to DIY, nothing better.

The cam/springs plus E85 will be a wicked combo too. I have heard guys talking about 500whp+ easy out of that type of combo. E85 ftw

Yeah I am most likely going the 4l80e route. I am hoping to get my buddy Fobiawrx (Fobia Fab) to help me or at least advise on the trans tunnel cutting. He didn't sound worried about it at all when I mentioned the situation.

I am interested to see your build unfold make sure and do a build thread here!

Why an auto trans? Or just preference?

Auto trans is the cheapest way to get these engines up and running lol also once built, your times will more consistent.

t56 are getting hard to find now.

Just waiting for the right one to pop up.

Any updates?

No updates at the moment. We just moved into a new house and getting everything settled in at the moment, its been alot crazier than expected. The move has taken everything I had, in more ways than just $ lol... Have a real nice area to work on the projects now though. Be patient with me and I will work up a legit update soon.

SWrocket- Auto is strong and reliable, with very consistent times. With the amount of power I am planning I think it will be safer with the auto on the street too, I can focus on keeping it straight while on the pedal.

Paidfor- Yes (street/racecar)

Nonturboeddude- Its going to be a 4l80e, I will cover that hurdle once I get that far into the build.

05subysti- You are right on the money. Yeah people want $ for their t56's, need to keep your eyes peeled/cash ready and you will find a deal. Any updates on your build? Have you started a thread?
