Default Help - gc8 rear disc swap

car is a 97 jdm sti

trying to do a brake rotor replacement, other members have told me that i will need 02-07 wrx rotors since i have the 4pot calipers on the front

so then i got a complete set of 02 wrx rotors for the fronts and rears and managed to get the fronts done yesterday.... however, i ran into some issues today with the rears - pic below shows new vs whats bolted on the rear right now, if u look closely the one on the car is twin plate where as the new one is only single plate..

so does this mean i have to get 02-07 STI rears instead? if not then which one do i specifically need???

You probably have the H6 rear brakes or the 2 pots rear vented rotors. Don't get GD STI rotors are those won't work.

Youve got ventilated rears but not front? Thats strange ventilated rotors were on the earlier sti's and should be on all 4. Did you measure the rotor? Same mm?

Maybe someone swapped those rears out at some point and just made those work.

Not necessarily that is true for the early versions the whole brake setuo is identical to domestic turbo leggy. But of his fronts are solid I would look into why. If the rear rotor is the same mm, possibly there interchangable the brake caliper would just have to squeeze further. So long as it seems to fit with the braket i would just install and ser how they perform.

Yep i always compare them first before i loosen anything thats why u see the new rotor on the hub there so i could makke sure sizes are the same..

Again, fronts were done with no issues yesterday and they were twin disc as well or ventilated if thats what its called

I also double checked with the guy at the counter and he says the rear part is for an 02 wrx

Ok i was a little rusty pulling info off the top of my head. I did a search though. What you need is front discs from a 02-04 wrx (294 mm vented) and the rear disc is actually for a turbo legacy 91-94 (265 mm vented). I was confused thinking you had the 4/2 setup looking at the pics closer your rears are 1 pot. Hope this sets you in the right direction, time for another stop at the autoparts store! You can tell the parts guy he is was wrong about the rears

Someone did the rear legacy h6 upgrade on your car possibly? You need vented rotors in the rear.

If you have 4 pot calipers up front (They should be red), you WILL need 06-07 USDM wrx front rotors. The 02-05 will be too small. The 02 will be smaller than 03-05. I made the mistale once, It might work, but won't sit correctly and you will have brake pad not sitting flush with the rotor edges.

If you have single sided brake floating brake calipers (02-05) then you will need the appropriate rotors for those. So which one is it?

thx for the input

i've been looking this up as well and apparently the jdm gc8 came with vented rears vs non vented rears on usdm models

http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=h...=0CDUQrQMwBTgU

apparently i could also use 07 wrx rear as they are the same ventilated rears that came from the jdm gc8

http://www.rs25.com/forums/f145/1883...journal-6.html

if anyone else has other opinions feel free to share

Basically but you get no points

And 02-07 wrx rotors work.

Rears as mentioned by 2 members are the 91-94 legacy turbo rotors in the rear.

Nope, 07 wrx rears wont work, as they have the 2 piston rear calipers which uses a bigger rotor than the 91-94 legacy turbo.

the 07 wrx rear rotor will only work for GC8's with the 4/2 piston setup.

Dont even tell the parts guy what its for. Just order your fronts as wrx (already done) and order rears as legacy turbo. I wouldnt go for the 07 wrx rears they would be bigger diameter I think.

PS i got my rears from lordco and they were about 100 bucks for both with no account.

I can confirm with coupe-a-loop, as this is what's on my jdm. 02-07 wrx fronts, 91-94 legacy rears.

Yup, this is correct. Not sure where you went wrong but this is what you need:

Front
02-07 WRX rotors
06-07 WRX pads

Rear
91-94 LEGACY AWD TURBO rotors and pads

I think for pads you can also get them for the 96 300zx but I'm not sure.

Also correct. They're the same pad, as Nissan uses the same 4 pot caliper.
