I would contest this to no end, especially if it is not your fault.

Go to another body shop and get a 2nd opinion, also get it in writing if you can, it would be good evidence in court if you have to sue.

Definitely agree with this. Stack up the odds against them, they will settle and fix the car before ever going to court.

Make sure you get something in writing stating that he is going to reshoot and blend those parts of your car in a few weeks. As others here stated, the longer this goes the harder it is for you to fight it.

This is a common tactic used by shady businesses to screw the consumer. They simply drag the issue out until you either give up, or it's been so long that it hurts you in court.

Definitely get it in writing and make sure your insurance company acknowledges that the body shop has confirmed that they will correct this blatant issue.

My 2012 Mustang got rear ended by a motorcycle 5 months after I got it. I actually had to talk the body shop out of blending the trunk and bumper as I wanted to keep 100% factory paint anywhere I could. You couldn't tell after that it got a new trunk but that was grabber blue which is fairly easy to match. I'm actually stunned the shop didn't blend that as it looks terrible and I personally would have a hard time releasing that to a customer.

On another note I just purchased some side skirts and imagine that it's going to be tough to match if SWP is as diffucult as many of you are saying. Fortunately skirts get pretty dirty anyway.

To the OP...I posted a few pages ago about getting my rear swp sedan bumper painted at a Subaru dealer. Well i got it back today. I definitely suggest going to dealer next time, or at least suggesting it to your insurance company.

Before:

After:

I'm hoping it will even shine more when i detail it.

This wasn't a small repair job either. They removed the whole thing and repainted it. Took at least 16 hrs of work. Hope things work out for you. Seems like the reason this happened is due to an inexperienced paint shop. Good luck!

If the OEM paint is better than your shop's, you went to the wrong shop.

Glad that they are going to take care of it. They should be able to take color readings right from your car and custom mix paint to match.

And as for reduced value, call a public adjuster who will go after them for a portion of your additional reimbursement. The insurance company is there to compensate you for your losses, not "fix your car". Part of your losses are the value of your car when you go to sell it.

after reading this I seriously have to question the shop your using and your insurance company.

If your insurance company wont pay for blending. Its time for a new insurance company. Like someone already stated, blending is a critical process for repairs. Its a visual trick to help with color match, you can't just NOT do it and expect it to be awesome especially on a pearl white car where bleding is pretty much essential. ( Now in all reality 99 percent of insurance companies are not going to pay for blending when its just a bumper or a sideskirt, they just expect the shop to match the paint properly and get it as close as possible, urethane bumpers never match in the first place and they are usually never quite perfect but very very close). Your bumper was just ridiculously off and I can't believe the guy gave it back to you. That would have never left the shop I work at.

The shop that told you it will "dirty up ". Well plain and simple, they are idiots and they must be using some completely CRAP materials. That is why there is clearcoat on the car, to protect the basecoat/midcoats. If the basecoat ( the color/pearl) doesn't match after the initial flash time than its never going to. In todays technology and materials, 'dirtying up" or color changing does not happen with base/clears unless it is just the crappiest material out there. It can happen with single stage paints where it needs to vapor release over a few weeks but I don't know any shop that uses single stage for repairs...except for maaco and well we all know about their quality issues. Back in the day when they were using lacquer based paints that took like 6 months to fully cure and vapor release to reach there actual final color that may have been a legitimate reason to wait to paint. Not today.

To me it looks like 1. They completely screwed the pooch with there mixing system and didn't follow the proper formula when mixing the paint. or 2. They used the completely wrong sealer. Each color has a value shade sealer that corresponds with the basecoat, sealer covers the surface first to make sure the first coat of base covers easy. White sealer for white base, light grey for mid range, dark greys for blacks etc etc. Looks like they went all reverse on your and used a dark grey followed by white basecoat or something which is comletely ridiculous.

And to answer someones concern, if they were a good shop. Yes, they would blend a panel without being paid for it. We do it all the time if we have even the slightest tingly spidy sense that the color has the chance of not matching properly. Blending a panel is quick and easy prep and doesn't really cost the shop much in terms of material and time. Its worth it to do for free if the stingy insurance company doesn't want to pay for it to ensure customer satisfaction. But some shops don't really care and thats understandable from one point of view cause they are only being paid for these certain things ,but from the other it just makes me angry cause its a whole lot easier and cheaper for the shop to just do it right the first time.

I wish you good luck dealing with this shop again man, hopefully they correct their blumberous mistake and fix your car back to its proper glory. That color is not that hard to match, pearl whites can have their challenges but doing a simple spray out card and adjusting the formual is key, of course a good blend helps tremendously as well.

Wow! Couple things:

1: paint looks much better
2: new wheels look great
3: not so keen on the red accents
4: black out those headlights ASAP
