Default Toyota Based BMW Z4 To Have 340hp Super Charged V6

With BMW finally confirming a new Z4 roadster will arrive in 2017, rendering artists have presented their take on what the jointly-developed sports car could look like.

Built in collaboration with Toyota, reports suggest the new Z4 and new Celica will share underpinnings, with power coming from a new 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder good for around 340 hp.

Expect a sub-five second 0-62 mph time, a sportier chassis, more aggressive styling and for the M division to take things to the extreme. Although perhaps not as extreme as this.

So many conflicted emotions. I don't know how this is going to work.

On the other hand, this may be the first time a BMW Z-car will be reliable.

I'd think "New Celica" would have grabbed more headlines. It's nice to see Toyota brining us the good stuff again.

I noticed that part. The old celica was a relatively nice car, aside from being a slow FWD. My buddy had the GTS (or whatever the top of the line model was) back in highschool. The seats and interior were damn nice for its time, hell still relatively decent for now. Give us an alltrac please

I had one when I was 15, it was a rust bucket. We broke off part of the exhaust an would watch flames shoot out. It was fun.

I'll take the less powerful and less expensive Celica.

The last one was fun yet surprisingly slow for how light it was.

Which will more than likely be a Scion, if sold in the US.

Toyota doesn't know what it wants to do...They put the FR-S under Scion instead of Toyota...IMHO, a big mistake unless they are going to move Scion more towards a premium brand...It should have been the GT-86 or preferably Celica under the Toyota brand, which would have helped resale value and left room for pricing similar to the BRZ. They made the new Camry look even more like a Lexus with is own play on an hour glass grill and all. The Corolla looks like an edgier product more destined for Scion, if it were a two door model I'd swear it was more of an evolution of the TC design...at the end of the day...why have 3 brands at all? Whatever this product is I am sure it will be great, the question is whether it will have some kind of identity crisis...hopefully the motor is of a Toyota design.

Doubt BMW will go Supercharger after dumping money into integrating their entire line up with Turbos.

Scion is a brand that should never have come into being. And as much as I would like to see a new GT4, as in the past I owned a ST165, I do not see this happening without Toyota getting back into WRC.

I need to get back to restoring my '74 liftback

Technically, turbocharging is a form of supercharging. But it may have been a translation thing from an original source.

It's a mutually beneficial partnership which will not do the consumers any good.

BMW is already cranking out carbon fiber tubbed road cars.

Toyota has spent a mint on carbon fiber production technology advancements.

BMW & Toyota want to collaborate on a steel chassis car.

This. I'm a bit confused. That Toyota Concept that floated around auto shows, now this news. Was that concept this car? Is this a new project that fits in between that concept and the FRS?

Toyota couples with BMW and goes full on derp. It's up to marketing now.

It can't be, Toyota said they were going to reintroduce an I-6, which I assumed is the reason they teamed up with BMW. If the new Supra has a V6, what's the point in that awful hump on the front fascia?
