There isn't any reason to remove the wheels.

I just finished installing my Outback fogs, but I didn't have any fog lights at all, so I had to install the switch and relay also. Took me about an hour to do everything.

Since it was in the 20's AGAIN today, I was lazy and didn't even bother running the car up onto my ramps. I didn't have any problems accessing anything, although it would make it a bit easier to have the car on ramps.

When it warms up, I'll align them to spec. A quick check has them aimed pretty low, so I should be OK for the time being.

If anyone needs a set of stock Impreza fogs, I have a pair, since they came with the install kit.

Used these this morning in <1/4 visibility this morning, really not much better than stock.

Only advantages I see so far:
1. Glass lens
2. H11 bulbs

My opinion might change once I get overlays installed.

I'm on the fence on the outbacks or stocks... price difference is only $40 but it just seems so much easier to just plug in the oem ones and be done with it. But... the outbacks look like they have some black in the housing like the headlights.. would look cool with yellow bulbs..

Anyone with the outbacks.. do they In fact match the headlights better appearance wise or is it just the pics playing witg my head?

I don't know maybe the new housing with 24W H16's are really good. but to me, the Outback assemblies with 55W H11's should be FAR superior to the OEM stock units. That just makes sense to me anyway.

I'm by no means "unhappy" with my stock OEM units (and I'm getting old too, so I NEED these to help me see at night.)

I'm still on the fence to upgrade to the H11 Outback units, but most likely will. If for no other reason, to allow easier procurement of replacement bulbs at a reasonable cost.

Just my .02

So I think i'm going to go stock fogs. I cannot find the wiring anywhere in there. I pulled the circle mesh cover where the fog goes and looked around through there, I was under the hood poking around. Some guidance may be necessary. lil help?

They come down out if the wires up just a little.

Did you try the factory instructions free from techinfo.Subaru.com?

My factory fogs are still for sale /shameless plug

Yeah... it took me awhile to find the driver's side plug. As you're looking into the hole, it's off towards the passenger side. It's taped onto the existing wires, so it won't just be dangling down. The passenger side wiring is off towards the driver's side as you're looking into the hole.

One you find the driver's side plug, you'll feel dumb for not seeing it right off.

I was going to snap some photos while I did mine, but it was too damn cold.

Personally I don't see any upgrade working that keeps the fog lens so far back it's won't spread out. The fogs on all my jeeps are Hella or CIBIE and pretty much all my vehicles have had aftermarket lights on them that are lowdown, upfront and out in the wind so to speak. Maybe now that it's warming up I'll look at how to overcome that recessed fashion factory placement. :-)

i think that is part of the problem, but at the same time even in their location they do light up everything they are supposed too. they aren't driving lights, and honestly i was a little dissapointed they didn't work better than factory this morning in the dense fog. overlays may help and independantly wiring them probably would (but on a relatively busy interstate, i'm not driving w/o headlights on because it is illegal and there are usually troopers out there)

I setup my jeeps with fogs, ecodes and two true driving lights.
Set the jeep back about 30 feet from a concrete wall, yard stick and chalk line, turn on fogs, you end up with a straight line at the top of the fogs, in my case 18", transfer that to the wall and shoot a chalk line, I adjust them on the wall to the same physical height as the top of the fog light housing, that puts all the light down low, the e codes have the same line on low beams, they also get adjusted to the same height as the line on the headlight housings, when the high beams come on they light above that low beam light, fogs go out then when the driving lights come on they drill though the top of the high beams for distance. The fogs not only light up down low but light up the sides of the road, a side benefit of this is it tends to anchor any deer by freezing before they step into the road and get frozen by the headlights which is why I like good fogs. The other thing I miss is being able to run with fogs and parking lights on those soupy mornings when all I want to see is the lines on both the center and shoulder of the road.

Just ordered all my parts! Can't wait for them to get in! $148 for everything is not bad. I'm going for yellow bulbs instead of overlays just to be different.

Yep. Was only 108 for everything through subarugenuineparts.com and i even got the chrome rings.

Fogs were the $40 oem from ebay.

The bulbs were and extra 14. I just ordered them too. just no namer yellow bulbs.

So all in total was 162. not too shabby.

when you do your install can you post pics of the relay location? I am still tempted to do the independent mod but the relay looks to be burried in the dash

Will do. Ill take pics of a stock housing with yellow bulbs too. I'm hoping they reflect in there enough to give a slight yellow hue while off.

Since I didn't have fogs, I had to install the relay. It's buried, but it isn't hard to get to. Pop off some trim, pop out the glove box (I actually left mine in), remove a bunch of screws, and pop out the area around the glove box. I didn't complete remove the area. Once it's loose, you can just reach up behind it to plug in the relay.

Sounds worse than it is.
