I did notice the PA system did not cover the whole venue... I was by the subimods tent and several people had asked when the raffle was... You could see the crowd gathering at the far end but could not hear any broadcast.

Lol no one even used it i bet. I like how they say they did even charge us to use it like they didnt raise enough money. Theres no way it cost over 30k to rent that track, simple math puts you well over that for ticket sales.. Never mind the autox, carshow, and vendor booth prices..

Default Wicked Big Line 2013

Dear Wicked Big Meet coordinators,
have you ever heard the saying "your stuff don't stink" ??? This saying refers to an individual that considers noone else's opinions or actions. Rather, the individual only considers themselves as being superior to everyone else.

Please take a moment to at least read my feedback.
After the big show yesterday, a group of about 25 individuals (including me) went to dinner near Springfield, MA. Our conversations consisted of everything from the sweet autocross track, to the crappy middle school DJ.

We were totally blown away by the number of spectators and participants that were present yesterday. Everyone did such a great job cleaning their cars and organizing fantastic caravans from local avenues.

BUT, we were not very impressed by the event itself. You guys have been doing this for almost 10 years now, so there is no excuse for yesterdays performance.
Did you have new volunteers?
Was the DJ inexperienced?
Did you lose vendors?
Were you understaffed?

This is not a complaint rant, so please do not get me wrong. However, I will point out three points that were totally frustrating to myself and others.
1. What happened?! line after line after line. there were volunteers running around shouting out directions to the lines as a desperate attempt to accomplish some sort of organization. Dude, you were at this venue last year, this isn't rocket science.

2. DJ - randomly throwing everyone under the bleachers, while forcing everyone to listen to a mysterious voice next to a U-Haul box truck. The raffle prizes were sick, but the announcing process was pathetic.

3. Why was the exhaust competition seemingly thrown together at the last minute out in the back parking lot?

Once again, after taking a day to read other's posts and concerns, I am trying to provide a little criticism from your fans. We will all be back next year.

By the way... I am buying a ticket on site next year, it seems to get me in faster.
[Dear NESIC/NASIOC, please discuss]

I agree 100% with the line issue. Last year was much better in that area. I was in line for 2.5 hours. I mean really!! It's raffle tickets, a goody bag, and a shirt. How hard is that to give out. Please please organize that better.

It certainly isn't cheap to rent that venue, be allowed on track, and pay for insurance. But hey, profits are profits.

It would be nice if the Wicked Big Meet staff actually addressed some of the comments here.

I've been a volunteer for 3 years now and I agree. Handling this many people at once is certainly a tough task, but not impossible with a well thought out process. Unfortunately they get the same feedback every year, and they seem to dismiss it as whiny 12 year olds b!tching on a forum. I have only seen minimal attempts made to make any improvements year to year. The event itself has grown a ton since I first came, but the organizers are now overwhelmed by the crowds that can't be managed with a "lets hang out in a parking lot" attitude anymore. I have seen personally how much work the organizers pour into this event, and the attendance numbers show that people are enjoying it and coming back, but a little more planning could save them and us a lot of time and frustration.

As far as I can tell there are 3 major pain points.
1: entry process. Every year people have to wait either to park, to enter, or to get their bag of crap/raffle tickets/t shirt
2: raffle. Nobody likes standing around for hours to watch someone else win some crap.
3: activities. I've seen a bunch of people say there isn't much to do, or they weren't aware of stuff that was going on.

I am not familiar enough with the event structure to begin to think of solutions to these problems, but I would like to at least see them try. I think the best thing for now is for the people who went to voice what they thought were the problem areas that need to be worked on. Maybe we can turn this into a poll so they can get an idea of what needs to be worked on the most.

It was a huge trailer right next to the bathrooms. The lazer tag was right behind it. Kind of hard to miss...

WBM was great guys. I've had my subie for approximately 3 years and 2 months and never went (Wbm Virgin). Awesome cars, trucks, and what made it all even better was the people, nothing beats the hospitality of a subie owner, learned so much more about my car then any other dealership would ever let you know about. I've been to honda events, checked out german/italian car events, and everyone seems snobby or stuck up, but this event takes the cake. Thanx for an awesome time and awesome event. Oh to the WBM virgins out there, you guys should go. I promise you you'll have a great time, and well worth the drive wherever your from.

I heard the cause of the epic lines was the guy with his ticket printed on his shirt instead of on paper.

Because some people would just park and never come into the vendor/activity area.

See I've read the same thing(s) for the past few years - not very encouraging to someone who has not been and would be planning to drive 800 plus miles one way to attend. I for one will most likely stick to local gatherings because:

1. At my age, I'm not going to be standing in anyones line for 1+ hours to register or whatever.
2. I'm not going to wait hours to get on the premises
3. I can do a car show every weekend locally and win raffles, t-shirts and autocross with like minded individuals.
So until I see or hear of concrete statements of corrective actions from the WBM organizers, I'll be keeping my $$$ in and around the state of Michigan. Sorry but I really, really did have this event on my bucket list.

Some basic info on the BRZ06 swap:
  • ~$9000 for the kit
  • ~$5000 for labor
  • weight increase 240 pounds
  • must provide engine + tranny
The owner told me he sold the FA20 to pay for the LS2 + T56. He was kind enough to let me try the shifter... it's pretty tall and rubbery, but he's going to put in a short throw.

1) I'm not defending the line situation but I did hear stories of HUGE caravans all showing up at the same time, then complaints from local residents that the roads were blocked up. I could hear over the 2-way radios as Plan "A" quickly went to Plan "B" then to Plan "C" in an effort to get the onslaught of cars into the lot(s) to alleviate congestion.
It seemed that the line and traffic wasn't bad till ~9:45AM, then everyone showed up all at once.
I think they had the best intentions but the parking / entry situation quickly deteriorated. It seemed to go better @ Wachusett when people got their goodie bags as they drove in and had shirt pre-orders separate from day-of shirt sales.

The first year I volunteered was when the meet was at Wachusett, and they had the same issue with the traffic backing up and neighbors complaining. My job that year was to help "stage" people in a field before the main entry gate opened. The idea that year was to have people park according to the generation of their car, so we started lines for each generation. The field quickly filled up and traffic backed up onto the street, and it was a bit of a disaster. I'm not positive but I think the local police were not pleased and that's one of the reasons we don't have it at Wachusett anymore. Last year they seemed to do a good job of getting everybody into the parking lot quickly, but the line to get the shirts and raffle tickets was insane. I stood behind the table all day from 10am until 4pm doing nothing but handing people raffle tickets and goody bags, and the whole day the line was awful. It seems like they are trying different things, but nothing is working.

I think everything was pretty smooth this year except for the entry line going around the entire place before parking, there was nobody out by the road telling people that if they preordered tickets they could just park and go inside, luckily someone told me that when i got half way through by the mud puddle.

The vendors were good, it was awesome to see Kiril from Rally Sport Direct and the Grimmspeed guys, i didnt mind walking past the hooters girls either

I didnt watch the autocross much due to meeting some old friends, but from what i heard the people that did it had fun, which is really all that matters.

I had a blast (literally) again with the exhaust competition, sorry to anyone i shot fuel all over haha

And i apologize for us taking pictures up on the hill by the side lot, i guess we werent supposed to be up there, or drive down.

Let me start by saying I have been going to every single WBM since 2006 and plan on going forward. So I have a lot of years to compare. But TONS that was messed up royally this year. I get it, big event, lots to do etc. That being said no reason from past experience why their were so many mistakes this year. Let me explain.

1. I paid for early admission which is 1hr earlier than regular admission at 10am. So EVERY year we always went in at 9am. This helped keep lines smaller, etc. This year we were told no no that is only if vendors are setup. That is crap. So I paid for early admission and got nothing. Doing this would have helped ten fold with the lines to get in.

2. People running gates have no idea what their doing. They don't know who and why their letting people in or where. We went around speed way twice because nobody knew where to go. Until I decided on my own to go same place as last year. Otherwise if I was new no idea. Speaking of which, takes what 5mins to make signs for each side saying early admission here, regular here, and auto x here? So make them.

3. WBM from all years had almost 0 to do with vendors and vendor cars. Yes their there, they support the community, give deals and free prizes, etc. So their is a value to them however its about the community and community getting together. Why the hell were fellow subie people parked on completely 2 different sides of the speedway? Why not fill one side then go to the other. I would have loved to see everyone elses car but because their was a decent walk to get to other side of park skipped out. Again WBM is about the members and community. Even if your not part of the car show everybody is still part of the overall show.

4. PA system. Not your guys fault but would recommend if your going to choose a facility with a poor system that you get other means to spread the word. People have no idea what is going on, what raffle ticket you read, etc unless their next to the booth.

5. After you spent your first 1-2hrs waiting in line to get in. Which I will admit was first time ever seeing that. Nobody had a plan on how to re entre if you left to go to your car. I was the first person to ask faculty what to do so we could get back in but this should have been thought through before. Where before didn't matter but because now were locking gates its a different story.

6. Not a mistake you guys made but something should start looking into. App for phone, paper guide, whatever to tell people what is happening, when and where.

7. Trivia that was over PA(bet most didn't even hear it). I get it, its a challenge and even googling answer may not net it. However if your handing out prizes think it should be more then 1 per trivia question. Why? I have no idea when trivia starts. I am all the way lets say by scoobie for boobies checking tent out. You ask question, by the time I RUN RUN to the tent all the way on other side with answer somebody who happened to be next to booth gave it to you. So how was that fair to me or others?

That all being said lots of positive this year too.
-Games for the kids(I don't have any) great idea.
-The amount of vendors that showed up and their prizes they gave, great.
-The way you guys spaced things out with the vendors, great as it gave people some room to walk.
-Auto x and car show seemed (wasn't part of either, but seemed) more organized which is great.

Again mistakes you guys made you have no excuse. You guys been doing this for many years now. I understand new volunteers and they don't know however leadership which is mostly the same is who needs to lead here and tell people how its done. Volunteers are there to push boxes, set things up, help people, etc etc. That also said you guys have learned some complains in the past. So little confused on things that were working why it was changed and things that weren't you were able to fix.

Those complaining about no tech seminars, etc. Speedway has no place for it. You guys really want to sit in a 30min-1hr seminar in the burning sun? When it was ski resort that was different as they had the inside area, but here unfortunately nothing.

Sorry for big rant but think their all valid points. Not trying to bash you guys or anything like that but just stop and think about it for a minute. Again not trying to offend anyone. Again I support WBM and will continue to go to it going forward just really really needs somebody on leadership to step it up.

Yeah, my point exactly, seems like all that was of concern until the day of the meet.. I don't want to get too harsh so I'll lay off the topic and let others chime in on Their experience.

I just hope my previous comments as well as others are seriously taken into consideration. I can tell you i will not be attending next year unless WBM can prove all the issues will be ironed out, I'm thinking a better venue will be the only way.. Even star speedway has a better pa system, or even newengland drag way. Why not lime rock? You guys pull in some serious cash to have this wherever and make it amazing. Do it!

Good thread but i feel just like the other one all our time wasted on trying to tell them how to make it better will again fall upon deaf ears.. I have already responded numerous times in the other thread but i agree with everyone else on this an support my fellow NESIC members on how to make this better.

The only way to make an impact is to not show next year unless they can prove it will be something other than a money maker for them...

^didn't assume boss. That is what website said on June8. Clearly says Early admission (come an hour before the gate opens).

I don't vent to vent. I vent for a reason.
