So I had my car pro tuned open source with EQ tuning in CA. Im looking into a COBB intake and airbox. Would I have to get my car pro tuned again or get a AP after getting my intake?

I would most def get your car retuned after installing the intake. Please fill out your profile. Some years wrxs handle some mods with out tunes better than other years. That's even if you have a wrx and not a LGT or something else.
Also next time you make a thread throw a mod list up so we can assist you better. If you have already had your car tuned by ED I wouldnt waste your time getting an AP. I think he will charge you less since he will only be altering your current map rather than doing a new one. |

I would also recommend getting re-tuned. Surely your tuner would not charge much at all for adjusting a map for an intake.

As a rule of thumb, anytime you add an intake, you need to retune. Especially true with any sort of "pro tune" that might be on the car. That being said, the stock air intake setup really is the best you can get, however without knowing mods, year, and model it's hard to give any accurate advice.

Regardless of mods unless you're pushing 400 or more whp, getting the intake and tune for it would be a mad waste of cash.
When it comes to tuning for upgraded parts, get your moneys worth.. |

I don't exactly agree with that. Yes, the stock intake is good up to 300hp, but I think there could be other benefits to having one. My tuner is the same as the OP's, and he has told me to grab an intake and a wide band afr gauge (for safety reasons) and come in for a new tune. Said it would allow him to go more aggressive safer and squeeze some more ponies out of it. Some where along the lines of 15whp.

You don't need an aftermarket intake until: Big turbo (Big WHP), Front Mount Intercooler, Rotated turbo.
If you want sound, go for it. Otherwise it's good to 4-500 hp. While your "tuner" may disagree, the top tuners for these cars have all agreed on that. |

I hate to tell you but Ed is one of the top tuners for our cars. I never said it was completely a power thing, it probably goes way into the tuning process to get a better power curve while being more efficient, but hey I'm not a tuner and neither are you so ill take my tuners word for it.

I agree with you. ED I believe is one of the top tuners! He knows it in and out. I'll definitely give him a call or text.

I agree the stock airbox was fine for my 20g but not for my 2.5 xtr. If you don't need it spend your money some where else.

He opened doors to his shop only a couple years ago. He doesn't post much on this forum but you can see a lot of his work in the proven power bragging sub section. He is a relatively new name, but his work is very impressive. He got known around more for CNC'ing the 2.0 heads for a hybrid build. But the interaction between him and other top tier tuners on here is why I feel he is on their level.

He had it right the first time
. I would put Ed's cars up against anyone's and then some. I wouldn't trust my subi to anyone else and I'm on number two. I would suggest giving Ed a call/email/pm and he will tell you what you should do.Last edited by Duo; 02-26-2013 at 11:25 PM. |
