Planning on changing the gear oil in the Impreza tomorrow. I found little information regarding specific information for the non-WRX Impreza.
According to sources the WRX 5mt takes 3.7 qts of 75w-90, does this also apply to the base Impreza? Looking for this info ASAP, I'll be picking up fluid tomorrow to do this while I'm swapping tires. Thanks.

75w-90 is correct. As far as how many qts the dealer told me "about 4 qts " but he didn't sound to sure lol but that's just because its Kearny mesa Subaru. I did 3.7 qts n just used the dipstick to measure how much more I needed. Are you doing the tranny + rear diff?

Did you not get an owner's manual? Mine lists everything, I would think yours would, too. I got really lucky after I bought my car and found someone with a digital copy of the dealer service manual.

Tried Penzoil Synchromesh, took ~3.5 qts to read full on the dipstick. The difference is dramatic regarding the quality of shift feel, I've always been a big supporter of this product and it continues to impress me. I'll probably run a short interval and change more frequently as the miles roll on. It's cheaper than an oil change, and the improvement is significant enough. |

Is this as simple as it seems like it should?
I have an 09 2.5i 5mt and should probably do the tranny and diffs soon as I just passed the 80k mi mark... |

Yes, it is very easy. The hardest part is getting the filll and drain plugs off of the rear diff. Make sure you remove the fill plug 1st to make sure you don't get stranded with no way to fill the diff back up. Get some kind of hand pump as well to pump the oil into the diff.

Cool, I will have to look up the rest of the stuff for the diffs and tranny ect...
I think I will make it part of my 100k service then I will do it more frequently after the fact. We will see lol |

Just a torx bit for the drain plug, and fill through the dipstick hole. I had a extended funnel that made the process a breeze. Drove it around the block a little bit, checked the level and finished. It took me ~45-hr as I always do loooong drains when changing any fluids. Especially gear oils. The majority of the time was letting it drain, and slowly filling it to insure it wasn't over full. I haven't done the rear diff on this car yet, but it's a painless process on other cars. |
