Default Fuel economy

I am having problems with economy on my 02 2.5TS. My car is comepletly stock other than a full wrx suspension. I think I should be averaging around 24 miles per gallon but I feel as though I am getting around 19 or so. I don't drive fast or rev the engine to high. I just want to know if there is a possible leak in the fuel tank? Or it has something to do with the fuel system itself?. Any input would be greatly appreciated

Clean your MAP sensor, and check your PCV valve.

I have a wrx and running at 60mph I get 28.5 mpg. Then again I live in Fl. If you are on cold weather then your mpg drops like crazy.

So OP have you actually calculated any of your MPG? Do you understand a 10+ year old car will not perform exactly like new and lose MPG's?

Did you also know we have a NATURALLY ASPIRATED section that this falls into. And your fuel tank is very clearly leaking, since you haven't told us anything to be able to help except you FEEL like you're getting crap mileage.

Also, the highest point in Florida is 345 ft. I think my driveway has more elevation gain than that.

Really? See the above? Those are called: Answers.
Clean your MAP and check your PCV valve.
You have a 10+ year old car. They lose performance and efficiency over time.

Hinshaw asked if you've actually calculated the MPG, rather than just what it "feels like". I had a 2002 Forester a year ago, originally rated at 28mpg highway. No matter what, I could never get it over 22mpg. It's called driving an older vehicle.

Nobody is crapping on your heart. We're giving you some facts and asking some questions.

Christ, what is up with the new people these days??

They were people who were never spanked as a child and always "won" participation awards.

You do need to check your MPG at the pump. You can't just say it 'feels like' this or that.

Do it and check back with us. I track my mileage all the time.

Seriously... what does "it feels like I'm getting 19mpg" mean? Gas mileage isn't felt. Calculate your fuel mileage over a few tanks of gas and report back with actual numbers as well as your driving habits, maintenance performed, etc. and we'll have more info to work with.

I've owned my '13 2.0i Impreza Sport for about 9 weeks. Fuel economy is rated @ 27/36 but somebody told me Consumer Reports averaged 26 mixed during their testing.

I drive mostly in traffic in NYC and I'm only doing about 24.5 calculated from trip odo and # gallons @ fill-ups. Can't say I'm happy about it but that's just how it is.

There are so many variables that determine FE that it's difficult, if not impossible, to do an oranges-oranges comparison across the people in this forum.

The bottom line for me is that I love driving this car. Although FE was a major factor in my purchasing decision, it wasn't the only or most important one.

To the fellow newbie who was the OP, if you feel that there is something wrong that needs figuring out, you need to go through a systematic process of elimination if you really want a definitive answer. The best place to start will be those factors present in your situation that are the easiest to eliminate.

I magically gained almost 1MPG today by airing up my tires. They felt a little soft lately in the roundabouts.

Hi all,if you think you have problems im over in England got a 2001 wrx,i have these mods :3port solenoid/turbo back exhaust/forge dv/panel filter/ngk 8 plugs/& remap by v.good mapper, had it mapped with these mods car ran great the only little problem was i had the 0420 code on day of map,was told didnt matter as he was turning rear sensor off ok.then on the odd day it was like the car had been put back to standard form but the next went great again but it got to the point were it would only run great once in a v.long while, also had uprated fuel pump fitted & a tweak to my map for it but while having it mapped he ask have i done anything else to it as he could get another 3degree's of timing witch made a hell of a difference i'd only done the pump,& my mpg went from getting 35mpg on a run to 20mpg & i didnt get any codes, untill i got the one for front o2 some moths later. so i thought great it must be the problem changed it with a denso sensor no different.so can anyone give me any ideas were to look, also just rebuilt front brakes so they are working fine & not binding, because i got the 0420 code initially im thinking have i got a blocked cat.please can someone give me some ideas?

I feel like a nerd. I get 26.3mpg combined in the winter in the Fusion I'm daily driving. 16.9mpg in the stupid explorer because of plowing and the wife's Outback n/a gets 26.3mpg when I drive it.

If you write down the mileage, gallons used in a log book, those numbers are easy to quote. If you just "feel" like you're getting a certain mileage, you have no idea what mileage you're really getting.
