2002 WRX, getting H-R springs for it, gonna run stock shocks/struts for now. My question is HOW do they ride with stock shocks? I know not as good as with decent shocks, but I am going to get coilovers in like a year anyway.
Will the stock shocks hold up for 15-20k miles? Will the ride be horrificly bone jarring? Really I am looking for feedback from guy that have this combo, or guys that have ridden in cars with this combo, BUT I would love to hear from anyone that knows about it. I just dont wanna hear ppl that have no experience with this particular setup telling me that its a horrible thing to use aftermarket springs with stock shocks, I KNOW its not the RIGHT way, I just wanna know if it will be ok for like 18k or so.(then its coil time baby!) Thanks

I've had my H&R springs on stock struts for at LEAST 15K miles. no blown struts or anything of the sort (knocks on wood). i like it more.. no more marshmellow feel. I like more feel. What can i say? I like it ruff.
the springs dont like big potholes.. bit its all good. My 70 year old grandparents have ridden in my car and they didnt complain about any bone-jarring.. the car does understeer slightly more.. but u can get swaybars. |

I've had H&R's and a 22mm rear sway with stock struts for 18k+ miles, and I'm talking hard run miles. Zero problems so far,I'm sure it's not the BEST way to go but it's worked great for me.
The ride is bearable, not harsh at all on stock wheels and tires, but with my 215/45/17 it's a wee bit on the rough side. Just make sure to get a proper alignment and I think that you will be quite happy. |

Search for ProgWRX for his experience with them. The only blown stock strut I know of on i-club. It was quite a while ago, at least 6 months, I think.
One data point does not a trend make, but still it's good to have all the info. |

Same thinking. Low buck option to immediately lower, and improve running hard corners until being able to afford proper high quality coil-overs. So far, it has worked out O.K. Have 16,000 miles on the H&R springs with stock struts. The only negative is the sometimes "brutal" ride on rough roads with 17X7 wheels, and the T1s 215X40 tires. The H&R springs are really stiff...about like Sti version 5 race springs. The Eibach springs may have been a better choice...dunno.

Do the math! Eibachs = smallest percent increase in spring rate from stock = BEST RIDE with stock struts. Tein hi-techs were pretty close too and actually might be a better choice for the sedan. Don't have my numbers handy, but just do a search for spring rates and get out your calculator!
