I had no idea the Lexus had that. I would imagine that the driver of the GS350 and the driver of the GT3 may push them differently

I honestly thought that the Porsche GT3 was the one purist holdout for us MT lovers. Seems like that taboo has been badly broken too.

I will never be able to afford one, but it makes me sad nonetheless.

Exige S, i guess...

I know it is a different type of car, but the Z06 will still come with a MT.

well you can't get an s3 exige in the US either. I suspect they arnt coming to canada?

This reminds me of the dreadfull day when porsche decided to add cupholders to the 911 and then when they decided to add radiatiors. The purists were always offended though the cars always got faster and sold better.

I wish they would at least offer a MT. Even if it didnt sell well it would be worth the image factor I think.

Many track whores (even wealthy ones) like manuals because of maintainability and costs, just as iron brakes are prefered to composite for many.

For single lap wonder cars, pack em with technology for the magazine readers.

Actual cars that are taken to the track regularly should be just sophisticated "enough".

There is actually a lot of overlap between the PDK and 7MT as far as mechanical parts. It is an automated manual, afterall.

It's alright many interpret it wrong. The GT3, GT2, RS, RSR, were built for racing homologation purposes. The previous GT3 still had manuals, because PDK was not good enough for racing yet. Now it is, they have to push technology.

Software and electronics has the most to be gained for performance. Today's software algorithms are far more advanced than they used to be, so rear wheel steering can be controlled more precisely and naturally. Such like how stability control work today vs back in the 90s.

As someone say earlier, the basic Carrera with no options, that's was the purist choice.

What transmissions are used by the GT3 on the Grand Am and Continental Tire series. What about in the ALMS and LeMans? Those Porsches are not manual and have not been for a while I thought. Dont they use the PDK.

I don't think the gt cars have anything to do with homologation these days

I believe they use a 6 speed sequential dog box for the RSR, but lower level GT3 races probably use beefed up stock gear boxes. Never a PDK, not sure if the next RSR will use PDK, but Porsche do think its good enough to put in a GT3, so gotta have confidence in it.

They still have to build production models for any competition following FIA rules anyways.

IIRC, Porsche's first use of a PDK transmission was in the 80's 962/962C race car.

Yep and the 956. It was raced well before it was ever put into a road car.

Great review by Harris as always.

Seems like quite the car, and he should now, more than any of us armchair racers here, but i also get the sense that he would, like me, have at least preferred a manual option.

I worry about the 4 wheel steering (3000gt and 300zx anyone?) but past that... hubba hubba!
