Default Engine Temp gauge

Ive been looking for a small temp gauge to install on my vehicle and i was wonder if anyone has found anything or is interested in finding a water temp gauge.

So far the only thing i have found that i could install that looks stock ish is the Engine Guardian EG2.

Having a temp gauge has always helped me figure out when my car was overheating (before it got really bad) and i think it would be useful when this car gets older and less reliable.

Personnaly, I use the ELM 327 Bluetooth OBD2 Scanner (13.99$) with application <<TORQUE>> on an old Android phone that I paid 40$ (used).

Here's a little video that will give you an overview

Works on all cars built after 1996
I ended up spending $70 just to check a CEL

I agree that having a temp gauge would prove quite useful. It's depressing to know that last generations Impreza had a temp and oil pressure gauge. I plan on towing a small uhaul trailer cross country and would love a solution.

@Auskip07 how does the guardian hook up? Could work if you put it by the MPG/Message Center area

@Paradis I like that! But seems a bit temporary to me. Good to know that I have a cheap option though!

Has anyone installed an electric gauge? Would rather not run a mechanical one.

I wont be buying one for a while. My car only has 14k on it so i have a little time to save up and do my research Im not sure if you want to mount it that high near the information center. Since this has custom alarms on it you dont need it in your line of sight you would mount it down in the open area near the gear shift and keep an eye on it occasionally.

How does it hook up? im sure 12v from the fuse box then route the temp wire to the engine block. Then add the button to your controls. It monitors actual engine block temp vs water temp. I kind of like the idea since you wont have to tap into a wet area and potentially have another place to leak from. As long as you have a baseline for the block temp you should know when things start to overheat

The OBDII wont work for me because my valentine 1 is hooked up from that port.

I've been personally running an UltraGauge.(http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/index.htm) It's only $61 and includes about 70 gauges that you can select from. It does include temperature gauges that are accurate to 1.8 degrees(1 degree Celsius) I do believe.

I like the capabilities of this, but I already have a radar detector and TomTom hard-wired and installed in my car. I just can't see myself having yet another device installed somewhere.
